from a high one morning of 3.4 Mb to a low most nights of 140 Kb .................. sigh and the utilization is less than dial-up speed

What rate are you paying for? I'm not talking about the "extra stuff" or utilization.

3.0 MB?
Other?
Or maybe they don't state a rate?

taking advantage of my decent early morning speed by roaming the halls! as the verizon tech explained that's all i'm entitled to! being in a fringe area i'm just getting spill-overs. once the tower gets populated there's nothing left to spill over god bless america and its telecoms!

atty - 3g is promised to be around 600 to 700 Kb with spurts up to 2 Mb but nothing is written in stone, lol

And that's what you're getting, right? And they want you to go to 4G, right? And they don't have an unlimited plan, right?

But...But...But....I have an unlimited plan now! Why can't I just get faster speeds?

Did you try outside yet? (Just to eliminate signal issues....) It's a laptop yes?

it seemed a little more stable outside, atty, but when it got blown off the railing i decided it's too early in the season to take another chance

i know and it's about 4.6 miles

it's nne of me - from my experience it's not any outside influence but insufficient tower capacity!
