Back from the "garden and landscape" show.

:glare:

Right off the bat, some young whippersnapper charged me for "senior" admission without even asking me. The ......

(ETA: REALLY?!?! Since when is that word censored??? It means "female dog, wolf or fox". What's so bad about that?!?!)

It was a SEA of evergreens. Not much variety at all in things over 4 feet tall.

I will be smelling hyacinths and lilies for weeks to come. It's a good thing daffodils have no scent to speak of.

Lots and lots of tacky-stuff booths. And that "folksy" arts and crafts junk. Potpourri.

There was a live demo of a guy building a natural stone garden border/wall, just like what will be going on here at home in a month or so. It's going to be a mess and noisy. But the results look great! :)

Not sure why a bathroom remodeler was there... or a booth for Cutco knives.

I *think* I got ogled a couple of times. :D

I also think I want to try bonsai. There is a series of workshops coming up (too) soon, so I'll wait for the Fall sessions. Five 3-hour instructional sessions for $90 and that includes "genuine screened bonsai soil' (whatever that means... "genuine"). But plants, containers, wiring and tools are all extra, along with hardcover books.

I built a few stone walls. (Back still creaking).

If any of you ever DIY walls.....use the SMALLER bricks. Not the 80 lb each bricks with capstones too thick to cut with a normal saw. Just say'n. There's lots of other engineering tips I won't bother you with. But...brick size...isn't usually mentioned. They don't LOOK that heavy...until you have to move about 1000 of them....

Otherwise flyby.

Fran!!!!
I've been in a month long funk here. Finally motivated myself to spend the few minutes finishing last years bookwork. Doing the taxes is a whole other ballgame.

Getting worried about you. Hang in there. Good work with the bookwork! Yay Fran!
Um... I was wondering if you know how to catch an elephant? I heard one way but I don't believe it.

I did a small two-course (2x24) ring around a tree with those wedge-shaped retaining wall stones. It took 3 trips to the store to get them all home without ruining the shocks and springs.

But what I'm HAVING done is all natural stone, so there will be a lot of hammering and chiseling going on. And as long as they clean up all the chips 'n stuff, it'll be fine.

PS: that tee ring mentioned above is coming out this year. Roots have pushed the ground up, so it all looks like hell now... uneven and gaps. Just gonna grade the dirt and mulch downward to ground level and ponder an alternative for next year.
