I got a generator 4 or 5 years ago, haven't had the power go out for more than an hour since - best investment I ever made.

But then again, I think I got a magic generator. Bought it 24 hrs into a projected 48 hour outage; brought it home, hooked it up and the power came back on. And like I said, haven't lost power for more than an hour since then.
It works fine as long as there's electricity. Can't blame the thing for melting ice cubes and dripping water after almost 18 hrs :d

Hahaha, we must have bought the same model ... same thing here. I bought one a few years ago, even bought a transfer switch, and haven't lost power for more than 10 minutes or so since!
lol - till we get the question for a whole-house generator resolved we better get something in the meanwhile. tired of no coffee and lights!

No need for a whole-house generator; just get one that can keep the fridge/freezer, coffee pot, a light and the 'puter going
