Dorje Chenpo: Can you tell me the diameter of the Prismaster or Icetool, please?
Not knowing whether I really like loose snus, I did not buy the tools, just a few discount cans of Odens Regular. Instead of pro tools I just used a sawed-off thingy for kids medication which is like a syringe 1 centimeter in diameter, because we have plenty of them lying around. I found I loved the stuff and the ugly DIY works well for small portions (about 7mm long, 10 mm wide circular tablet; should be equal to mini portion in pouch) and I would like to know the size of the pro tools to see if its useful to upgrade to them.

I use the smallest (3ml) icetool. It's 3/8" (9.5mm) internal diameter.

The prismaster is an oval - 3/8" at narrowest and 5/8" (16mm) at widest. It's only $2 at getsnus period com, so you might as well just buy one of those to try sometime. It doesn't make as firm a pris - instead of a plunger at the top there's a slider on the side. But it's 1/20th the price.

Have you seen "snus introduction for beginners" on youtube? Note the VERY important technique of drying the inside of your upper lip with the back of your hand before inserting the pris.

I made a DIY portion tool, too. I sawed off a 3ml syringe I had for my late cat. It didn't work well because the base of the plunger was a flexible rubber stopper. It needs to be a very hard surface to get a good pris.

Thank you. I might have seen the important technique and completely forgot about it before I bought my first loose. I will try it with my next pris. Might be the reason why my stomach is too tender when I use loose without eating first... Good hint.

Yes, I will buy the prismaster with the next order in a couple of months (a can of loose lasts quite long to me;) ). Actually I wanted to and forgot the last time. I was just curious about how much my improvised tool mimicks the real ones in the shape of the pris. It also does not make really firm pris even though it is hard plastic; if I want to keep it in for a couple of hours or have slower absorption, I have to use my fingers. On the other hand, I am useing Oden´s which is said to be difficult to bake, so maybe other ones will be easier to be formed by tools.

General is only Swedish company I know of selling in US stores. They have a store locator map. Put in your state and it will give you stores in that state.

SwedishSnus.com by Swedish Match

There is one store, but it's on the other side of the Cascades. Oh well.

So far I've liked all I've tried. Mocca pomegranite, Oomph licorice/citrus, mocca mint (they subbed this for the anis - I still want to try that). The pomegranite is my fav, though.

Last time I flew to London, I took along some Commit for the plane ride. Doesn't help much. Got desparate and actually tore off a small end of my cig and tucked it in my lower lip. Nasty, but more effective than the commit. Hadn't heard of snus then. These will help soooo much and taste so much better.

After having the Mocca mint in for a bit, I don't care as much for this one.

They're cheaper online, Frankie. I like local availability, but still mostly order online. The big fear is that online ordering will be somehow forbidden in the not-distant future. So I've been pushing local stores to stock snus for me -- and others. It's working. I have a good local supply of snus and Stonewall products now ... just in case.

I, too, like Mocca Pomegranate better than anything else.

What, aside from being in a pouch, is the different between snus and dip?

I had a childhood friend who wound up one of those jawless horror stories, is that a risk with snus?

I'm sure this was answered already, but I just couldnt bring myself to read every scrap of the near-30 pages.

Swedish snus doesn't increase your risk of oral cancer. It is salt-cured and steam-pasteurized, which keeps the levels of tobacco-specific nitrosamines (TSNAs) low. Those are the chemicals which cause cancer.

American dip is high in TSNAs - the processing is different. Dry snuff is ridiculously high in TSNAs. I haven't seen TSNA figures on American Snus (Camel etc), and I don't like the flavor, so I'm sticking with Swedish.

(Plus it goes with my clogs.)

I read Toque snuff only has a 2,25 NTSA as compared to 504 in a cigarette, 0,7-2,8 in Offroad and Ettan snus and 127,9 in Silver Creek and 64 in Skoal.

Do you have any link to that dry snuff dangerous levelss? I use it occasionally, so it concerns me a bit. Also, by dry snuff you mean nasal snuff? That is what I use.

You're welcome. Went to buy some snus locally today, and the General Mint Mini had gone from $3.75 per tin to $4.45. And this before the new taxes kick in.
I noticed that too on the General stuff.
Tried the Wintergreen today from a sample pack their website is giving away for free.
One word....blah:(

Curses to you Bob. [Another] new hobby. I'm still waiting for my first order from Toque and now I've gone and ordered from the Northerner. Ah, well, at least it's affordable and the battery's won't die in the middle of a crisis. I knew I should have stayed away from this thread.
That Tropicalbob sure is a trouble maker!!:D
Don't feel bad I now have 68 cans in my snus refrig.
Think I need to do 2 or 3 at a time to start using some up. There's just too many to try out.

No, I haven't tried OT yet. I just barely found pv's. Just now figuring those out. Can't wait to try nasal snuff and now my snus. I ordered the 1847, lucky strike, catch dry eucalyptus, and wine and dine gourmet (I believe this used to be the Wine and Chef Tb talks about). I can't believe how cheap this stuff is. No wonder so many people have so much. I got four flavors and two bullets from Togue for $8.44 and no shipping and the four cans/tins (or whatever they're called) of snus for just under $17.00 with shipping. Unbelieveable. 'Course, I'm all new to this alternative nicotine stuff so it's all very exciting.
