K-sound: No spitting. Snus are made in Sweden and come in loose or pouch varieties. I'm strictly pouch. Tried loose -- what a disastrous mess, and I'm not willing to learn the intricacies of "baking a pris". The stuff even has its own language.

Many snus are salty and bitter. Some are just plain sickening. Some are sweet -- Camel, CatchDry Peppermint, Skoal Snus. I definitely prefer the sweeter ones, even if people think I don't grow hair on my shoulders every night.

Snus are way better than Skoal Bandits, Cope, etc. Way smoother and better. Plus, a bonus: You get to keep your teeth!

Digestion problems are problematic. Some experience gastrointestinal distress; some have none. I have none. The most common problem with new snusers is hiccups. Mild portions are easiest to take; try a Camel if it's available in your market. Quite weak, but tasty. Then move up in strength until you hit a "oops" moment!

i like the general original. i think the wintergreen is good as far as winter green goes.... i just don't normally like wintergreen. Iv found that friends who like wintergreen dip tend to like it though cause they are more accustom to the flavor.

i think someone mention they didn;t like the general white here somewhere but taste reviews differ from hate to love from person to person from what iv read

I wish there was a tool to bag the loose snuss. It would be fun to come up with my own recipes, whether it be different tobacco combinations, or maybe your favorite coffee grind with some tobacco, or how about some tea leaves and tobacco.

When I got really desperate I would empty a teabag, throw some loose snus in there, roll it up and cram it in my cheek.

Oh, I like General Wintergreen. I'd be driving to Sarasota tomorrow to buy that very snus and some CatchDry Peppermint at a tobacco store.

I didn't immediately like it, but it grew on me rapidly. It's potent, too.

Tbob, as a-soon-to-be 1st time snus user, I'm looking for some sage advice.

I tried "chaw", as the southern boys call it, waaay back in my youth. Nothing quite like spewing brown streams of filth to make you feel "manly". If you swallow a little, God help you.
Blech!

I also tried a skoal wet pouch once - also Blech!

I gather from previous posts that you don't spit with this stuff. Is it as harsh to "swallow" as regular pouch chew and skoal?

If so, I'm done before I start.

Any other wisdom would be appreciated.

It's actually very different from American chew. With snus, you don't spit. You don't get sick swallowing your own saliva. And it's not like a Skoal wet pouch. I too tried that and it was godawful.

I didn't take to snus immediately. At first, I only liked sweet ones. The Camel was great, as far as I was convinced, but the hardcore snusers on their forum ridiculed Camel and Marlboro. These (mostly) guys with hair on both shoulders like strong, harsh stuff.

Snus does not provide the immediate nic hit of smoking, so it can sneak up on you. I've OD'd twice, after realizing too late that I was way over the line (I was snusing and smoking a pipe at the same time; I routinely use snus and an e-cig). Note that the blood nicotine level -- the total amount of nicotine circulating in your body -- is regulary higher in snus users than even in a heavy smoker. If you use snus and any other source of nicotine, take great care.

Start light with something like the Camel or CatchDry Peppermint. Then move up. You can find the strengths and types at The Northerner or Buysnus.com
