So Confussed/frustrated

That's the million dollar question!

You have to be careful not to over heat the atomizer so don't keep drawing on it. You also don't want it to get to dry or it will burn up as well. If you put too much fluid you'll need to drain it so it can fire.

There's a learning curve to it. That's why everyone suggest buying a couple of extra atomizers so if you burn one up, you've got a back up.

It's hard to describe it if you haven't done it....

Atomizers (or atty for short), turn the fluid to vapor by heat. They eventually break down. I had one die in 3 days. My second has lasted me over 25 days (and feels like it will last another 25). My wife is still on her first atomizer . (attys run from $6.75 - $12 depending on the quantity and where you buy)

Being the "major workhorse" of the ecig, these break for a reason (dropping when real hot, trying to vape things you shouldnt, or not caring properly for them), or no reason at all!

This is kinda like trying to figure out "how long will my Chevy last"? Depends on if it was made on a Friday, and how well you care for it...

In the 901s and 510s, I can say they last on the average of 4-6 weeks. Some people get 3 months or more. Some get a week. Sometimes you get a bad one that dies after 3 days.

Guys, i don't know how to thank you for the answers and questions.
There is just SOOOO much information on this site that it is hard to try to process it.
I went ahead and jumped in with both feet, using the info i have read on the site, so here it goes.
I placed an order with heaven gifts. I ordered a joye 510 kit with 2 complete e-cigs, ac charger. i also ordered 3 extra batteries, 5 extra atty's, a passthru usb, and a pack of 50 prefilled carts with Marlboro high nic.
I hope i did all right, but i am worried about the Marlboro high nic carts. I quit smoking 6 months ago using chantix, and i am trying to get my 22 y.o. so n to stop, which is why i ordered all this stuff, and would like to get my 72 y.o. father to stop also, if possible.

My questions are,
#1 how often do you have to trash an atty?
#2 Since i am just starting, should i just do the prefilled carts for a week or 2 and then start refilling the old carts?
#3 Would you recommend a newbie trying to mix his own juice or start off with premade flavors and stuff like that.

Thanks for the info and the site

I am glad i found it.

Hi, Super,
I have not trashed an atty for almost two months. Save any attys that stop working or taste burned. You may want to take on cleaning them to resurrect them. Lots of posts here on cleaning them.

There are so many good flavor liquids out there, you should try a few small samples you think you might like. You can top off your pre-filled carts with them, or refill the carts.

Your mom said not to say...
The one thing I would recommend ANYONE wanting to order a E-Cig kit is to make sure you order at least one bottle of juice and one spare atomizer with your FIRST ORDER. Especially if you are doing this to quit smoking, you will go through the first 5 carts in no time at all and all progress you made is halted in it's tracks while your waiting on juice to arrive in the mail. Atomizers are notorious for failing at any given time for any given reason. I had mine fail on me after 3-4 days and at the time the kit I bought didn't come with a spare atomizer so I had to scramble to get a spare until one arrived and I got lucky a friend owns a tobacco store that started selling them and loaned me one. I don't think many others will get that lucky...

So with your first order, get at least one bottle of juice and one spare atomizer. There are other items I would recommend if you were to decide to continue to use the E-Cig, but wait until you know it's something for you. No need to spend a fortune on the ultimate E-Cig accessories kit with all the little things that come in handy until you know it's something you like.

I have a kit that I keep in my Dragon box that my kit shipped in that's roughly the size of a cigar box I suppose. I keep my E-Cig supplies in it and it's perfect for storage and for taking with me on the road. I have a couple of sheets of Fluval for making filler, multiple flavors of juice in multiple strengths in 10ml bottles, empty carts, small scissors for cutting filler, my 510, my Dragon carrying case with spare Dragon, atomizers for both 401 and 510 E-Cigs, contact lens carry case for holding juice to dip 401 atomizer, USB charger for the 510, passthrough for the 401, and other small items as needed.

I would immediately get some juice. I still have 2 stock cartridges left out of 5 and they taste like .... compared to my own juice so I probably won't even use them.

You don't need more carts really, you just need more filling for the carts + juice. You can juice up the filling that comes with the carts but they only last so long and IMO you get much better hits using lipton pyramid tea bags.

Rocky Mountain Vapor has pretty good prices on juice - $6 for 10ml bottles which makes it not too expensive to find a flavor you like. At your rate of smoking a bottle that size should last you 7-10 days.

okay just had my first hit of an e cig and I think something wrong.

Are the carts that I got already full or are they empty?

I got mine from cignot.com for 35 bucks and the hits seem to hurt my throat.

I've been smoking cigs now for 5 years or so and never had an issue with a hit to my throat.

btw I didn't charge it(I have the other one charging) I think someone said on this thread that you don't need to charge it first time.

but please HELP ME

Wisco,

Sorry but I have been busy here at work -

DONT TOSS IT! and charge up the bats at least for an hour or so just to make sure...not usually neccesary but it cant hurt.

Is the taste burnt? or just harsh metallic or what? I am thinking you dont have enough juice and/or you are dealing with "primer" issues - or you have a high nic/lower quality prefilled carts. Most people dont like the prefilled ones that come with kits. (hence the - "buy juice" comments)

Also, vaping can be harsh at first - especially if you have a higher nic or poor quality liquid.

After reading the below, post back some more descriptive info on what you are dealing with before delving into the items. I put all of this here so that you have an idead that we will help you get going... :)

Ok - in your carts - the part with the white fluffy stuff - is the white fluffy stuff wet/heavily damp with fluid? If not (hopefully they arent melted) you need fluid on them.

If you got prefilled carts, and the fluffy stuff (filler we call it) is wet keep in mind that sometimes the prefilled carts arent the best fluid/juice made. Hopefully you have extra juice. if not - the items below wont help until you get some.

Now, the atty (atomizer) usually has a "primer" on it when they are new. Sometimes this primer is really nasty, other times it is fine. I had one once that made me almost gag/vomit.

I do the following with new atomizers: I drip 1 or 2 drops directly in the atomizer and let it sit a few moments. Then I drip 1 or 2 more.
(my 501 doesnt like more than 3 drops on the atomizer)

Then I put the cart on it and push my switch for 1 or 2 seconds then put it to my mouth (still pushed) and do 3 or 4 short smooth (1second) "mouth puffs" and dont inhale. Then stop. (both to cool the atty and to give my mouth a break from the nasty taste.

I repeat the mouth puff routine until I have a good vapor that doesnt taste metallic/chemical.

If you get liquid in your mouth or it gurgles a lot or leaks , we got a little to much fluid in the atty. Remove your atty and blow on the battery end into a paper towel to rid excess.

Now - keep in mind that if it is primer - the taste and vapor production gets better with time (breaking it in) and can take up to 2 days. I had one atty (the nasty one) that took 2 full days of trying until it finally just turned into a "wonder vapor thing" and it is my favorite atty now.

In closing - if it is just .... tasting juice/prefilled junk, the only thing that will help is getting some good juice. (Good juice is the holy grail of vaping - took me about $30 of sampler bottles to find 2 that I now cant live without.)

Keep us updated - I will be logging in and out tonight so it may take a few minutes to get an answer (from me anyway).

Hopefully if I am wrong (and I might be! I am new too!) - someone will pipe in!

Its more of a metal taste.
I just felt the cart and it is wet, I do not yet have the juice its coming in the mail.

I'm guessing their prefilled in about an hour i'm going to just puff it(no inhaling) and try and break it in persay

Yes. The metal taste is the primer/new cart.

Try the puffing until you get your juice in. Its good practice anyway.

Do not over-dry your carts or get down to a burny taste!

After about 3-5 cigs of puffing try a fresh cart. Remeber you can re-fill them when you get your juice.

If things arent better by then (should be) - just wait for your juice.

If it is better, you are on your way -

Just remember if the flavor starts to get harsh its probably cart/juice time.
If flavor and/or vapor lowers it could be battery or juice.

BTW: what kind/level of juice did you get?

DonDaBoomVape (that's his screen name!) has posted an excellent 6-part tutorial on the new members forum that answers many questions. It's got great info, and hilarious side-bars and short video clips to keep it interesting. I highly recommend all new members check it out.

It'll teach you all the basics about batteries, atomizers, juice, cartridges, etc., and will help speed you on your way to vaping. Best of luck!

(One final thing - check out the social groups listing for a group in your area. Having a fellow vaper in your vicinity can be a life-saver for you in an emergency (last atty dies, run out of juice, etc.). Many of us will pitch in to help a cyber friend out - we've all been in the same boat at one point.)

I read DonDaBoomVape introduction to vaping. He is definitely one knowledgeable individual when it comes to vaping.
I have read other posters say they clean their atty's with "everclear".
What is everclear? Sounds like another name for vodka.

Does anyone know if there is a post that explains the differences between different models of units? as in.......
What is the advantage of a 901 over a 801 or over a 510? does a 901 have a longer battery life than a 510?
Is a 901 atty better than a 510 atty? why? You know, that kind of stuff.
If everyone goes for battery life, why doesnt people use a cigar battery, it seems that it would have more reserve power due to being bigger????

I've just got a million questions about this kind of stuff, and i haven't even got my stuff yet,
