Oh happy days, my new sigelei #13 finally arrived today! Yeah, oh hold that thought. My #13 turned out to be the number 8, so I'm thinking nice looking device, I just may keep it. Put the battery in attach my AGA T+ and hit it, nice. Set it down for a couple of minutes, pick it back up and it feels warm. Hmm, check the cap on the AGA and it is hot, take the cap off and it is vaping away. So I take it apart, and lo and behold the firing button is installed right through the threads, so it fires continuously.

Needless to say I filed an RMA claim with the vendor, two strikes, wrong item, and it has a very dangerous flaw. Now I am wondering about the new AGI I got at the same time, haven't messed with it yet, it may end being RMA also.

While I can't blame the vendor for the manufacturing defect, I do hold them responsible for shipping the wrong item to begin with. We'll see what happens, things like this are a enough to make a person avoid certain vendors.

My #8 is my mainstay, the only device I use, and I'm nearly chain-vaping now-a-days.

Sig#8, Asssembled.jpg

It came 'perfect' right out of the box, I believe it's construction is par excellence, a very well thought & designed product. Every part of it is manufactured perfectly, the way it should be, or probably better. And the machining - Wow!

I'm so impressed with the vendor and obviously the manufacturer that I've ordered ONE MORE from them.

So, is there a knock-off of the knock-off?

I didn't order the #8 to begin with, and it is a nice looking device and threads together very nicely. I probably would have kept it, but no device should sit there and fire without any input from the user. The firing button is installed right through the end cap threading, causing a short. Not safe and it is the wrong item to begin with.

I'm glad you like yours, but I don't have any desire to watch a battery destruct.

And it came in a nice Segelei box very much like my Zmax came in, so I doubt it is a knockoff of a knockoff.

HUH?!?! "Through the end cap threading"? Got a photo? Doesn't sound like a genuine Sigelei #8 to me! I love my #8.

OP - many of the #8's that came in a recent coop did not have the firing pin screwed down all the way, folks were reporting it would come apart and the spring would fly out, mine did. Maybe it is that your firing pin is not screwed together tight, and thus too long and making constant contact with the negative post? Just a thought. If you do get a #13, make sure it is the one with the metal switch housing, which will be exactly the same as the #8 you have.

Seriously NO One who does not have the knowledge to EXAMINE a MECHANICAL MOD on arrival should even consider ordering one. Even the most High End mods have had an occasional issue. You must be able to check everything out, make adjustments if needed and verify function before assuming you can install a battery and Vape.

This is meant as a WARNING not an insult.

Especially for those in the classies, I got my legacy mini with a spring from a flashlight in it and way too many washers under the switch. You have to look before you fire.

Actually I took the center pin out of the end cap and found it packed full of metal shavings, once I cleaned those out it no longer fires on its own. Just to be clear, the firing button is installed through the end cap threading of the body, not the actual end cap.

It could be a knockoff of a knockoff, if so they also copied the white box Sigelei uses.

It is a beautiful device, and it now functions well. This was not meant as a knock against Sigelei, sorry if it came across that way. I now have four Sigelei products. As for checking it before using, yes I should have done that, lesson learned. I have decided to keep this device and have talked to the vendor, really nice person.

Wishing you all well.

^That sucks. It really is a bad product, either a missed/neglected QC issue, or a knock-off-of-a-knock-off like I suggested before. Sorry to see that happening to anyone.

That said, most Sig.#8s r very well designed/machined. Mine is. And so it many of the guys' at the Sig. Mod thread. However, as with any device, it's always wise to give it a thorough 'check' before firing it.

Hmmm... I just got a Sigelei #8, and I really like the look and feel. Very solid. I have sanded the post, the tip of the switch, and the positive screw to reveal the brass for better conductivity. I haven't actually checked it under load yet, but I have been reading that there is a problem with the steel spring causing too much resistance within the unit. Have you had any problems with that? I also swapped the end caps so that the button is at the top, which is much preferable (to me), though the logo being upside down is going to play havoc with my OCD! lol
