Hi every one! I don't vape or smoke but my SO does. He only smokes around 2 packs a week but is very interested in making the switch from analog. His birthday is coming up and I wanted to surprise him with a great set-up to get him started and on the way to a healthier lifestyle. I was hoping to get some advise on which brands/kits/styles of vaporizing you masters would suggest for someone like him. He seems to like the idea of eliquids and the variety and freedom of choice they offer. Also, what is a reasonable price range? Should I be expecting to need to pay $100+ or will I be able to find something good for less than that? I really appreciate your help. I am really new to this and am still trying to figure it all out. Thanks!!!!!

There are options for less than 100, but like I said, if he sticks with it like so many of us have, he will end up upgrading to something reliable and more expensive in the long run. I just know that personally, I could have saved my self a lot of money by spending the money on a provari to begin with. Also, another popular item is the Vivi Nova tank. It isnt listed as a rebuild-able, but it is.

+1 what Vapoor eyes er said. Smokeless Image. They have kits with the cigalike type PVs, and also larger mAh (longer battery life) X2s which are like the eGo type and can be used both as a passthrough (attached by their USB cord to a power source) or as a walk around battery. They even have a variable voltage version of the Spinner...where your SO can dial in voltage where he likes it. They have ALL the accessories and cartomizers and juice you will need to get started. I started out in my early days with them, and only finally moved away into the "big" APVs after I'd been using my Volt (SI) equipment for a year or more. In fact...I still use a lot of it, depending on my needs at the time!!

Welcome to ECF Steeps87! Every one has there favorites, as a beginner and when i started I was uninformed I started with the wrong foot and did help me to go less but not quit. I stopped about 1 month ago and I have the joyetech ego-c and twist, (after trying 2 different start kits and brands) they have the most common threading out there.
I like to have good vapor output and sensation since I was 1 to 1 and 1/2 pack a day.
Look at these guys on youtube so you can make the right choice.

i saw all of the videos and I got the right one, I would hate to hear that you spent the money and missed you propose.
we are here to help you ! good luck and let us know!

People generally recommend Smokeless Image's Volt as a great beginner device, but I'd like to also recommend the Halo G6 Starter Kit. Halo is very well known for their e-liquid flavors and I'm pretty happy with their kit. They also have low resistance cartomizers and prices are very reasonable for the quality. Anyone here know how the G6 compares to a Volt?

If you do purchase the Volt from Smokeless Image prolly has the best customer service in the industry and has a HUGE and loyal following. Also after receiving your Volt get your freebie:

They are 808 threading which means you must use 808 accessories with the Volt. You can also buy blank cartos and fill them with juice yourself- much cheaper and far more juice choices- literally thousands

Hi Steeps, A lot of good advice above, but I would suggest to start with a real firm favourite the eGo twist or Vision spinner battery, have a look at the vivi nova tanks and some fairly mild e liquid (only 2 packs a week). You have to think that he may not take to it, so the initial outlay may be wasted. Not sure about the US but in the UK you can get starter kits for the above with 2 batteries and charger etc'. If he takes to it - after the initial learning curve he can go to what he fancies. Some would say its a waste of money to go this way, but some would say its the best way forward i.e. test the water first.

Hope this helps.

get him an ego kit of some sort with a tank. then get some juice from fuzion vapor. i just got a sampler from them. unicorns blood is good and makes all my other juice taste GROSS. i'll probably only be buying juice from him. it really is that much better.

i woundn't spend a ton of money. you can get everything i said for less than 100 and have a very solid experience.

I'm New here, as a matter of fact this is my first reply here, I smoked tobacco cigs for 35 years, about a pack a day or so, So beggining this year, I made the switch to vaping and never looked back, but it's been a learning curve.
I started on the blue cig's, major mistake, and ended up spending more money on those blue carto's than regular smokes, so I got an EgoT
Not the best choice eaither, but a good place to start, you can get a complete kit for around $50-$60 bucks, tha will have everything your need except juice, and let's not get started on that trail, Finding "your" flavors is, well......another thing.
You don't want to run out and spend $200 on a provari, you cant go wrong there, I own one myself and love it. But thats just the unit itself and then there's batteries and charger, gotta buy your tanks, carto's, juice etc. Yeah it gets expensive.
If you would rather start off with a big battery mod, you can look at the Ego tube mods, they're about $20 on line, so after buying batteries and a charger, and a tank you can get started for around $60
Yeah I own one of those too, and it's someting your not to worried about taking with you, and overly stressed about because it's inexpensive enough. I would say the very best place to start is by watching reviews, Like PBusardo and Grimmgreen, They can help A LOT
there a more options out there than you can really keep track of, And prices from "no big deal" to "OMG" and I own some of both catagories.
Stay within your budget, I passed my EgoT kit on to my son, and he stumbled a few times back to traditional tobacco, untill I hooked him up with something that he's happy with. I also would like to mention the Itaste MPV, an entire kit with everything you need except juice for $65 or so. There a lots of reviews on both. But remember, DON'T spend a ton of money to start, but start off right, can't go wrong with the MPV. Mainly because he may not "like" vaping, altho I certianly hope he does. So no cheap blu's or the like, they are disapointng and may turn him off to vaping. And if he "does" enjoy vaping the "spending $$$" on other devices will follow, You can take my word on that one. Hope I helped.

Everyone is bringing up great points here. Is your husband looking to carry a small pen-sized ecig around or does he like the look/feel of larger models? Of course if he is open to a larger sized ecig then many more options open up, but you are definitely not restricted with a budget of $100. I started myself with a JoyeTech EgoC battery and Kanger 2.5ohm bottom loading cartomizers, with a good amount of eliquid from vaping zone for under $100. Maybe some questions to ask... What cigarettes does your husband smoke? How many per day? This can help in finding an eliquid strength and flavor that will be right for him. Congrats on making the switch!
