For some people, anything different or foreign to them is scary. They are used to cigarettes, they know the dangers, the smell, the look, etc. This is something new and therefore, it makes them uncomfortable. They are in essence putting their fingers in their ears and crooning, "I can't hear you" when you talk about it because they would rather remain uneducated and wary.

I try to cut people like this some slack because a year ago I would have seen someone vaping on an ego-C with a stardust and thought for sure they were doing something illegal and mind-altering. I wouldn't have walked up to a stranger and asked them what they were inhaling. I thought all e-cigs looked like regular cigs but with a light on the end and when I first heard it was water vapor, I thought, "How stupid. No smoker is going to be satisfied sucking in water vapor." I was ignorant. But I chose to educate myself. Some people will be curious and ask about your PV, some will listen when you explain, and some will put their fingers in their ears and hum loudly. The more prevalent e-cigs become, the less foreign they are to the general public, the less scary they will be to these people. We just have to get the word out every chance we get.

Ditto, everything JudeD just said. I think you are so right!

I would like to add this: Everyone is being pretty brutal about the manager. From his (a non-smoker/vaper) perspective being addicted in any way to a chemical substance (nicotine) is just "Ewwwwww". Just because you have found a less dangerous way to remain addicted does not help your argument at all. Also, a lot of our gear looks like it is for illicit substances. I can understand why managers every where do not want what looks like illegal activity happening around their establishment.

On the flip side: Non-smokers just don't understand how hard it is to quit. I tried many times before I found e-cigs. It is not a good solution but it works for me.

Some people mainly smoker I have found are the ones to have this reaction. And it is kinda baffling. I mean smokers thinking ew? Seriously? I usually am vaping backed goods and that is not ew at all... its YUM! Plus I smell good now. not like nasty cigs. Rarely do I get any reaction from non smokers, when I do they just "see smoke" and thus the ew. And there are the Rachel Rays of the world who are just ignorant to what vaping really is and just classify it with smoking and will never listen to know that it is very different and not ucky at all. But yeah... for now it just comes with the territory. I can't say that it doesn't hurt my feelings when I get that rare reaction. But I don't let it ruin my day. :)

That's why I always stealth vape. I vape frequently throughout the day . .in my office, in the bathroom, walking down an empty hallway, going out to my car to "get my cellphone", etc. Nobody at work knows I vape. Where I work, nobody would understand. There are just a few closet smokers and you never see them out in the smoking area (our office is in a building with other offices and there is a common smoking area).

I use 36mg (mint flavor) juice so I just need to sneak a few quick hits and I use the "hold it in" stealth vape technique. I also hide my ego in my hands and hunch over my computer like I'm concentrating on something. One of the secretaries saw me once - at first she gave me an odd look as though she noticed something . . but I didn't drop my poker face. I just held my breath extra long and then picked up my coffee cup like I was taking a sip and exhaled into it - there was no vapor anyway . .just in case. If she noticed anything, I never heard about it.
