Thanks, Tibs and Eleanor. Yeah, Ghostery doesn't work well with IE. I tried-- checked the whole box (select all), no go. A friend suggested increasing Internet security setting to high, but it's non-selective and blocked the buttons but also a dozen other features I use all the time, like smileys...

I do not want to switch to FF or Chrome. I like my Windows 7 and IE 9--they work well together. The only forum that's difficult to navigate now, after the change, is ECF.

I wonder if the Administration is still working on improvements. Or are we all done? Are there any plans to offer a disable option in the future? Move those pesky vanity buttons to the Info Page, perhaps? There must be a way to make them go away...

The "in-private" flitering has helped speed things up a bit. It still takes 20 or 30 seconds to log in to ECF tho. Once there, navigating between threads is almost normal. I hope this gets fixed. It is quite frustrating. I am also using XP and IE 8. And whats the deal?.....with in-private filtering turned on I get no paragraphing in my posts. They all turn out like this.Bozzlite

I don't think they care if their comments are how they actually feel..........:(

We just did a major software upgrade and the resulting issues for some members take time to resolve. Various things get tried, and eventually there will be a fix. Some code might need to be written so that IE can cope with the site. In the meantime the only solution is to use another browser.

Ghostery didn't know what version I was using. I had to choose the proper one. It also didn't give me any boxes to check, such as "block bugs".
I'm using Firefox, and there is a tiny "blue ghost" symbol up in the top right of my screen, just to the right of my search box. Clicking that gives the option to block bugs.

As Roly said on the radio show some time back, he never gets the bribes.

That's not strictly true, I do get offered very large cash inducements* to do various things** but unfortunately have to turn them down as Sarge and Misty are watching. Darn shame.

Unfortunately - and this is the weird thing - I have never been offered or given any products (except when carrying out a research project for someone and the gear was probably not what I would have chosen anyway). I think I could find a way to accept the occasional tank or whatever, purely for the purpose of, let's say, quality testing :) . Sarge would probably be OK with that. Also it would mean I could get a tank without spending 4 hours watching a thread or hunting through the backend of 23 sites to find one that actually had it in stock in the right fitting.

Yes, I could almost certainly make a couple phone calls or an email and get whatever might be needed. But somehow that doesn't feel OK, more's the pity.

* Sounds better :)

@Tibs
40% of people may well use IE but that doesn't mean they're right :) Look how many people voted for the [Republican* / Democrat* / Green* / Communist* / LibDem* / Monster Raving Loony*] party last time. [* delete as appropriate]

And if you have to write code to get a browser to work properly then something says it's not up to par. They should just put that code into the browser in the first place. Simple, huh? Although maybe that's a bit like the argument that to save on the cost of tyres, the roads should be made of rubber and cars could use much cheaper concrete tyres. Sorted.

ps I mainly use Opera as it has the fastest JS engine. Ffx has the best toolset but it's too slow, at least when extended.
