It sucks today just as bad as it did yesterday and I hate it, hate it, hate it.........and I am not tech-savvy enough to do the computer stuff you recommend rolygate, I wish that the changes had never been made. What I don't understand is how you and your techies have not experienced this, the complaint has been prevalent everywhere I have frequented around here........

And the heck with FB anyway!!!:evil::evil:

4. You can also make changes to your hosts file on the PC if you are OK with stuff like regedit. Somebody posted the details in one of these threads but I'm not sure where now. Anybody? Doing that also fixes it as it removes FB and Google links on ECF. You need to make a careful note of what you did, though.

I think you're referring to this @ post # 40 by snork.

I'm afraid that you'll need to fix this problem, because it is old info stored on your computer. One solution is to change to another browser, if you don't know how to clean Internet Explorer.
Download Firefox:
Mozilla Firefox Web Browser

Save the file somewhere you can find it, such as your desktop. Don't just click the Save button, be sure you know where it's going to be saved.

When the download is complete, double-click the file.

Installation should be automatic from here, although you might have to click Yes or Next a few times.

Internet Explorer

I hesitate to tell you how to clean up IE as it will prolong the use of a browser best consigned to the trashcan. You could try this setting though:

If you're using IE 8 -- Go to your InPrivate Filtering settings.
Set it to Automatically Block.
Set to 3 the -- Show content from providers used by this number.....
Then refresh.

The automatically block has to be reset at each instance of opening IE, the 3 will stay.
[thanks progg]

Thanks Rolygate. I did this and it definitely improved a lot. Also gets rid of the FB icon. Google icon is still there.

I know, Jemma rocks -- you can be hot after 40!!!:thumb: But tib doesn't watch SOA -- they better not kill Tara or one of the boys tonight, I'll stop watching.:grr::grr::grr:

This is working for me, I went to the settings she described and blocked the FB and google links and its all back to normal -- try it all concerned!

no worries, corazon! i've had no problems - knock on wood - for a long, long time!

this slow-down was caused by google +1, browsing in-private has fixed that!

and i appreciate roly's advice - i know how much he despises ie ;)

but for some of us it's the only way to go - we do love it!

seriously though, running ms security essentials and a weekly scan with malwarebytes, plus secunia's scan for updates, has kept me surfing problemfree.

I don't use IE, but I just tried IE 9 with and w/o smart screen filter and active x filtering. No issues.

I don't have IE 8 but a possible solution can be found here @ post #35 .

Thanks, Progg. That fix worked for me. However, I had to reblock every time I re-entered the site, just as you predicted.

[Also, thanks to Roly and Tibs and everybody who offered advice.]

Then I upgraded to IE9; it's much faster than the IE8, and better designed (although I'm still learning how to navigate it.) However, I can't find a way to make those three buttons (FB and Google) disappear in IE9...

Soooo, should I download Firefox? I've read a lot of reviews and everybody seems to like FF.

Decisions, decisions...

I will never use the Facebook options here. Heck I rarely have FaceBook up at the same time that I'm on ECF.
So, again I ask, at least give us an option to disable it.

It would be nice if ECF would offer a disable option for those three buttons--for us who have no need and interest in them.
