Thanks, Progg. That fix worked for me. However, I had to reblock every time I re-entered the site, just as you predicted.

[Also, thanks to Roly and Tibs and everybody who offered advice.]

Then I upgraded to IE9; it's much faster than the IE8, and better designed (although I'm still learning how to navigate it.) However, I can't find a way to make those three buttons (FB and Google) disappear in IE9...

Soooo, should I download Firefox? I've read a lot of reviews and everybody seems to like FF.

Decisions, decisions...

You're welcome, Katya. I've been using FF for quite awhile now. Even without the add-ons it's a more secure browser.

With FF there's a bunch of add-ons that can increase security, convenience and pleasure. I use NoScript, for example. [NoScript can be "noisy" especially at first. But I know computer challenged folks who have successfully employed it. It blocks scripts until you allow them and has other security features as well.]

Check the recent threads about the ECF slowdown. Members have had success with the add-on ghostery and others whose names escape me. I don't know that any add-on eliminates the appearance of the new buttons (maybe others will chime in) but they do eliminate the lag.

''Since its peak of popularity, its usage share has been declining in the face of renewed competition from other web browsers, and is currently 40.9% as of June 2011[update]. It had been slightly higher, 43.55% as of February 2011.''

I will never use the Facebook options here. Heck I rarely have FaceBook up at the same time that I'm on ECF.
So, again I ask, at least give us an option to disable it.

It would be nice if ECF would offer a disable option for those three buttons--for us who have no need and interest in them.

Roly, I know we can do a lot of things. But wouldn't it be simpler if ECF just offered an option to disable those buttons? It would save eveybody a lot of time and aggravation.

Just sayin'.....:)

Thanks, Progg.

I'm still hoping ECF will offer an option to disable those pesky buttons...

I like IE9 better than IE8, I don't much care for Chrome, but I'm seriously considering Firefox.

Totally agree!

I take part in a half dozen forum/discussion groups each day and ECF is the only dog when it comes to response time. Yes, I could switch from I.E. to another browser with add-ons that eliminates the problem, but I really don't care to for one lagging forum. Besides when Microsoft announces they have a security hole in Windows do I rush out and buy a Mac. No, I take care and wait for MS to offer a patch to the problem. :2c:

I'm not sure if this has been said or not. I am on Safari(Mac). If you have AdBlock installed you can right-click(bring up context menu), and click "Block this ad". Then a window with a slider will pop up. Run the slider to the right until the +1 and fB links disappear and click Block and you are good to go.

I could be wrong but I thought Adblock had a similar functionality on all platforms.

Try installing Ghostery, Katya (Ghostery dot com). It "knew" what browser I was using, and all I had to do was click "install" and then check the box for "block bugs". Easy peasy! :)

Ghostery didn't know what version I was using. I had to choose the proper one. It also didn't give me any boxes to check, such as "block bugs".
