I'm pretty sure a powerful enough forensic x-ray machine can penetrate through metal, unless it's lead or lead-lined or lined with carbon or carbon paper? Diamonds mixed with scorched almonds? I don't know. All I know is it was super exciting at work for about thirty minutes.
Shure they could X-Ray it. Or maybe use some high-tech top secret "gamma ray" device or something.
...Or they could just take the bottom cap off and look inside it :D

this is very strange, what in the world could the FBI want with e-cigs?

How the heck do you x-ray a metal tube? Wouldn't it just show up as....a metal tube? Must be some strong x-ray machines if it can see anything at all.

As thin as the tubes are medical x-rays would be adequate. But there are industrial X-ray machines some range up 8 MEV. We routinely x-ray steel castings 8 to 10" thick. In addition x-ray equipment there are several radioactive isotopes (Ir , Co, Se, etc...) used where portability is needed or access restrictions prevents the use of a portable x-ray tube.

LOL - that's exactly what I was thinking.
Dark suit, plastic badge, free mods!

Kinda like putting on a red jacket, standing out in front of a fancy hotel, and saying "may i have your keys?" to the first really nice car that pulls up...

gotta remember how to get stuff for free... just need to dress up like the FBI!

Isn't the FBI somehow associated with Homeland Security? I wonder if they are looking into the possibility of carry on mods being rigged as an explosive device for passenger airplanes? Scarry thought.

Lol..I thought it was that.. felt kinda bad, cuz I commented on a thread about flying. I stated how I don't understand there hasn't been issues with mods... a little piece inside my head thought it was my fault...

I just think that's so odd. Why didn't they just buy them on the gov't tab? Did they say why since they did say why they wanted to look at them? I would be a nervous wreck myself so wouldn't be surprised if no one asked... but ya know citizens do have rights.

Edit: we all jump right to explosives but another possibility is smuggling.... unmentionables here, etc from China or other points around the world.

If the feds are just trying to generally learn about the design (and potential misuse) of mods, I really don't think a couple of field agents in Dayton Ohio would go into a shop and just take them (it's nice that they "asked" but some requests you really can't say "no" to).

I would bet that there is something going on in that local area, a case or a rumor, or some kind of intelligence, of misuse of equipment for illegal purposes.

Not lying. (If this is against TOS, delete this thread!) I work in a B&M and they asked if they could take several mods (ed: both regulated and mechanical) and ego batteries to have them x-rayed. I can't go further than that, but wow, the FBI! It was kinda exciting! It was like the movies and T.V. shows! They really DO all look like that, with the suits and everything!

That's how I felt when I stayed in the Middle East (Lebanon) You haven't lived until an armed guard approaches your car window with a machine gun  ... I totally felt like I was in a movie.
