Hi All,

New member here who has probably just made a complete rookie mistake with my first ever RBA build. I just can't figure what I did wrong.

I use a Smok V8 Baby RBA, I have made my own liquids for years so thought moving onto RBA be a smart move, especially considering how expensive Smok coils are.

I watched a dozen videos/read a dozen forums to learn. Thought I'd start basic and leave the factory fitted wire in for now (Looked like a double twist kanthal), tested the ohms, came out fine at 0.7 and wicked using Cotton Bacon. Wet the cotton, put it all back together and fitted onto a Innokin Coolfire IV at 56.5W.

Went to vape and the wick felt flooded, no air getting through (air flow fully open). Took apart, rewicked and used less juice to wet the cotton.

Tested again and felt flooded again yet this time I get a mouth full of red hot eliquid! Yes, it was and still is quite painful! Tipped the tank and liquid just poured out of the mouth piece.

Fired the coil from 50W up to 100W and each time it just spat and spluttered with no actual vape.

I got a touch angry so now it will need rewicking and a new wire.

So, embarrass me please, what did I do wrong?

Yep, they are basically identical except the Baby is smaller and therefore abit more fiddly with smaller reservoir and smaller holes.

My first thought was that wicking had moved the wire and created an issue, I just wondered if anyone had this issue before and what the cause was. (Short etc).

I think I'll wait for my Coil Master V2 kit to arrive before trying again, my mouth is still pretty sore! Lol.

You should double check rings making sure Pyrex joint isn't the issue. It sounds like issues faced time to time with moonshot and ijoy tornados and it amounts to packing cotton generously to regulate oil flow.

I wish I had more...if anything my tfv8 is probably less likely to leak than any tank I own (clearomizers included).

I don't own one... but I've read a similar issue a few times... did you take apart the tank or just the coil? if the O-rings(or whatever they're called in that) aren't in place right, you'll lose the vacuum and have this exact issue.
X2...and again, you could have a flooded wick. As I said above you can try a rewick making sure cotton is thick without being dense at juice flow slots....
Keep us posted, I'm curious...

You need to take the entire tank apart as the RBA requires a larger glass section that is supplied with the RBA. Now you mention it, it was certainly harder to fit that than the standard glass..... Now that is a strong possibility. Thank you!

As you say Robbie, that would cause the flooding issue.

I'll update once I've built another.

Well, looks like you were both correct.

Put in single wire kanthal at 0.25ohms, rewicked using cotton bacon and this time changed both O rings on the actual tank. Glass fitted much better and this time it seems perfect. Had to up the wattage to 68 but fires perfectly now.

Flavor seems alittle off but put that down to new wire and wick.

Thanks for the help, really appreciated.
