Ok so the tip about trimming the ends from a cotton wick and keeping it a maximum of 1/4 inch seems to be doing something. I havent changed my setup except I pretty much cut off all the cotton I can that goes into the tank, and my Steamboy 2.1 is amazing right now, especially the flavor. The only minor problem I have is, since my tank is frosted, I cant really tell if im tilting it the right way lol.

What I do, is hold it up to my mouth so the mod is horizontal. Someone said in here earlier, think trumpet style, not saxophone style. It also helps to keep the wicks aligned horizontally, but it's not necessary unless you're taking a huge hit or using crazy wattage or something. I use a kraken, so it is easy to tell where my wicks are, but if you can't see them easily don't bother. It only makes a difference when you're down to the last few drops of liquid.

If that isn't enough, I give it a little stir or something.

I just want point out a little something. As far as I know, there is a difference between an autodripper and a cotton wick. A cotton wick goes down into the juice and requires less/no tilting. An autodripper has little/no wick into the tank and requires a horizontal to 2 o'clock tilt.

Also the negative tank pressure will equalize with the fill plug installed (like ConradM's) if the wick is not tight.

@silber Dude, what in the world do you have open in those other tabs? Next time link it instead. lol

LLLOLLL WTFF???!?!?!? Aramdillo and dog ....??? Hilarious...

So anyways, this is my setup...I was able to actually pull out the cotton wick from the tank by using a piece of kanthal wire and then I lifted up the coils a bit so I can trim it off so that the wick holes are completely open. I wish I had better camera so you could see but yo, this is seriously amazing...

I drilled large deck holes in my cloud chaser genny and it chains 100% VG. The Genny tilt floods deck.

My other genny style toppers have dual wicks. Skinny wick through deck hole. Another wick on deck. Fairly firm wick inside 3/32" coil; this is the tricky part. Yes, it does work good.

Yo im seriously in love right now...damn I wish the steamboy wasnt so ugly looking

The hcigar kraken is pretty awesome, check it out. I have no complaints. Its a lot better made than the tobeco clones, if you've seen those before. I waited a long time to get one because those were the only ones I had seen and I didn't like them. The + post isn't some floaty annoying crap, the deck is EASY to build on, handles any wire you throw at it. twisted 28 gauge? .... it. It could probably do twisted 2 gauge. More 30 dollar clone attys need flat, wide, good post screws and washers on the posts. Washers ....ing rule. The glass is thick and the fit is nice and loose so it won't get stuck and break like the cheaper clones. I picked up a brass one, and I'm using it with a brass nemmy clone with some polished SS parts mixed in. Looks P sweet for 50 bucks. I actually don't like it very much looks wise, but it matches that mod really well so it worked out. I'm a function>form kind of person, not that I don't appreciate a good looking atty. The wick holes are only 3/32 and it came in a tiny box that was falling apart with basically no accessories except silica wick for some reason (you need your own allen key to even do dual coils LOL) but whatever.

Nice! What atomizer are you doing this on, and how is it working out for you? I was thinking about doing something similar so I'm really interested in this. Because it involves drilling the wick holes huge I was going to get another atty to do it on. One of the problems I foresaw, is that it would get leaky if it wasn't always held with the air hole upright, but I figure with the right atty it wouldn't be a big deal. How does it work for you in that regard? Even with some minor annoyances like that, I'm also just seeking the perfect 100vg genny, and I think you're on to something here.

I drilled three 3/16" holes in a large Genny style topper.

Leaks not a drop, upright.

On it's side, well, lets just say it's not rated for pocket carry.

Chases 100% VG clouds with the big boy RDAs and don't have to be always drippin.

It's rocking 3/32" twisted 30GA at the moment.

That just looks like regular 30 gauge. Not bad at all. What genny is that? I like the center post.

Impressive. You have a calibrated eye! I'm not running that 30GA anymore but it made some decent clouds for 1 ohm. Extremely fast wicking speed.

That is a 21 mm FT iatty glass version. You guessed it, I dropped it on the concrete floor and had to DIY replace broken glass w/ PP. I got replacement glass from FT already; I need to install it. It is very different from junky FT plastic version. Has a two piece center post but glass version can flow some decent amps. I prefer UD AGA-TD.

I don't really care anymore as long as it doensn't have that confounded floating center pin. Do not ever buy the "cobra" on ft. That center post is all over the place. I had one given to me and its pretty much the only dust collector I have. I pif most of my old stuff, but I wouldn't with that atty on my worst enemy. Lol. There is a local B&M that has the I-atty. I think I'll scoop one up sometime.

That's funny, I bought 2 FT 19 ml cobras last year. Both are the thick tank versions.

Both out perform all my 21 and 22 mm tank toppers. I just ordered two 17.5 ml AGT beauties. I hope AGT can compete w/ ugly cobra; I don't like the cobra knurl or cap shape.

Those cobras have been my pocket carry for a few months and they are tough; never missed a beat.

Do you have thick wall tank cobra of thin wall tank cobra?

I have this cobra, and the chroming came off in like 2 weeks, unusable

$11.86 Cobra Genesis Style Rebuildable Atomizer (3.5mL) at FastTech - Worldwide Free Shipping

Same one I have. Mine is very tough. Gotta love sweat shop quality control. That one has SS cap and chrome plated deck. My black DT cobra has chrome plated deck and cap; I blasted black DT cobra cap to match brass Chemy.

I only buy UD products right now. All are quality. Some out of the box ready but some need a little tuning.

@emus

I was wondering, could you wick a coil with a shorter/smaller wick (think, haystack shape, maybe with a larger diameter coil so the wick can be short+stubby) by flooding it that way using drilled out wick holes? Or do you have the extra cotton in the cap to catch the juice that foods the cap?

I was thinking, you could even run your setup with dual coils as long as you had a genny that does duals side by side rather than opposite each other, or drilled for it. I'm going to be on the look out for an atty that would work for this sort of set up. As long as both air holes are on one side of the cap, you could have dual coils and still be able to flood the cap without getting leaking.

By the way, the tails on your build are a really good example of what you should go for if you're going to use long tails. Your picture shows it off really well & people who are just learning how to build these should take a look.

Many ways to do it. Good thing about Genny is you can peak under hood to tune and verify coil is wet. I like the long wick because I can TP refresh when wick starts getting fouled. Once you get used to Genny, building a good wick/coil is very easy. Most complicated part is getting correct wick density through coil. I pack my coils medium firm; more is more within reason.. Others like less is more.

I think its the one you have with the plastic dt. The first link. When I screw it down on my mod it either raises my center post 3-4 mm or wrenches my coils sideways when it twists. I have always had to build it on the mod. Other than that it does perform well enough but I attribute that to the size and taper up in the top cap. It really gets the flavor and vapor to you very well. I am still trying to think of a way to make the center pin more rigid.
