By gaining the readership of all those networks they can now claim exposure to millions more people so the price of advertising on here can go up and any other services they have now or plan an adding in the future.
It should also create a huge awareness of us everywhere. Some thought would be given to the cost (lost members) for doing this vs the gain (extraordinary exposure and hence many new members possibly) and again charging more for the exposure here.
I am in the advertising business ..it's all about exposure, repetition and target marketing.

Elendil,
I appreciate your point about patience and the mods needing time.
We however were not given any time for this change or advance notice, it kind of just happened BANG all of a sudden so the school of thought goes ...if it could happen all of a sudden BANG....than it can unhappen all of a sudden too.
I just became a supporting member because I really like this place. I thought that things like this might be voted on or a poll taken to see what the "troops" think. This is how other forums...ones I have even modded on have done it.
This leaves a bad sense that the memberships thoughts and concerns do not matter.
Once that happens to a forum people can start leaving in droves. I saw it happen to a forum I modded at at few years back.
For the most part the people want to feel like this is an escape to come with friends who share a common interest or hobby, once the sanctity of that is destroyed....what do you really have left??

Good post Paulie.

OK, this issue was brought up in the middle of the night.
We get that you don't like it.

You do know it is a Saturday morning, and perhaps giving us some time to look into the issue would be appropriate. Not everything can be fixed with the snap of your fingers. Our coders don'r work 24 hours a day. I don't mean to sound overly harsh, but c'mon..................

Patience is a virtue

It is. We're all pretty virtuous - we were patient for 3 months to get the disable for the top buttons. So by that measure, we should be super virtuous by June on these.

And how about the coders disabling this stuff before putting them on line - or didn't they have the patience?

OH
I don't care if there are Twitter/Facebook buttons. I am all for exposure. I think the forum needs more. But this technical implementation is very, very annoying.

My browser connects to the third parties a hundred times to render each page?! What's up with that?!

And it makes no sense, why would I tweet or like or +1 an individual post?! We already have a Like button on the forum. Let there be only one set of social button for each thread, and for the forum in general, not for EVERY POST!

There is another issue - I have checked the option to disable social buttons in the General Settings, yet this doesn't affect the social buttons on each post. This, therefore, qualifies as unexpected, undesirable behavior aka a bug.
