Homeish now
Ummm guys few things.
First of all I totally agree, not liking the change with the like, tweet +1 links. It's just pointless. We already have are our own Like button.

But...we dont make money off those, its not even an available option to make money off those. They arnt Ads. If we wanted to make money, there would be ads everywhere, giant bar on one side covered in them would do it. Just look at your FB page if you want an example.
Really it's rather an insulting that every time ecf makes any change about anything, some folks jump to the its about money! thing.
I've put in over a year and half modding here...for free it's all volunteer. Not turning into a millionaire workin here.

What makes me sad is that the members that have been around a little bit know this happens with upgrades...and that it gets resolved/removed as soon as it can be done...and yet...here we are 153 posts later...

You are absolutely correct and I (and hopefully others) can be patient as was asked, especially given that this just happened over night. However, what I do not understand It is the same thing that happened when there was the new interface . . . and also when the "Social" buttons first showed up on the headers and there was the same uproar . . . More importantly, given the extreme "dislike" of most people concerning them being forced to accept "Social" Networking sites by many places (not ECF) or the suggestions that they change "Browsers" (when the interface change happened) . . . Why would ECF (or whoever is responsible) allow this to happen ? ? ? Just asking- hopefully you or someone will have an answer . . . .

From reading the little bit that I can since pages won't load at all on my rural DIALUP... I see that it is a general consensus that these social media links must be banished.

I will have patience as Elendil has requested but why the H was this initiated without any opt out warning or option? Upgrades are appreciated but intrusions are destined to be the curse of this forum. Please continue making members your first consideration but until then, you have blocked out many of us long-timers and supporting members.

I think what happens CW is that people wake up all Groggy and turn on their computer’s to get there Mourning ECF Fix only to see something they don’t like and what they are seeing takes longer to load than before.

And their first reaction is...

“Why the Heck Did They Do This?”.

“I Don’t Want This.”.

“This Isn’t What I Paid For!”.

It’s a Natural Reaction. People think that this is how the ECF will be from Now On. And maybe don’t consider that it was jaut a Glitch of some kind.

What I did was Scan the Posts until I saw Someone from the ECF Team letting me know that the Issue was Known and that it was being worked on. That’s all I needed to see.

I can live with Slow Load Time or those God Awful FB or Twitter for a couple of days while the ECF figures out how to resolve things.

I don’t have to have my Pizza in 30 minutes or less.

i agree, cj - and, if i remember roly's post right , the main upgrade was done about 2 weeks ago but that we should expect some efforts at fine-tuning to continue. if this was fine-tuning last night then why would a coder not stick around for a bit to see what or if there were undesired consequences and revert them if necessary?

ok, this issue was brought up in the middle of the night.
We get that you don't like it.

You do know it is a saturday morning, and perhaps giving us some time to look into the issue would be appropriate. Not everything can be fixed with the snap of your fingers. Our coders don'r work 24 hours a day. I don't mean to sound overly harsh, but c'mon..................

Patience is a virtue

This thread started shortly after midnight and has blossomed. Your concerns has been made clear to ECF and they are understood. Additional "redundant" post will not speed up the process. Discussions are ongoing among the mods. I ask that you give us some time to sort this out. Many of you are veteran (long time members), and your input is appreciated, as are the comments of newer members. The mods work tirelessly for you, the members, so you can have an enjoyable experience here.

Agree with Tib on this one - I was here in real time when it went into effect; the changes were noted immediately by us "regular" folks. Why would a coder not be available as it went live to note the consequences, good, bad, or otherwise? And, if not able to fix or compensate immediately, at least make comment to let us know the issues are recognized?

so much could be said.
i dont use any of those sites so i will leave it at:
please remove the social idiot buttons so my pages will finish loading.
cuz i just LOVE watching my loading icon instead of reading posts while the page tries to load all social media garbage.
thankyou
if i want something i post or pm on one of those places i'll put it there myself. thanks

Out of curiosity....

There seem to be two major complaints.
1- The new social media buttons seem to slow page loads.
2 - The new social media buttons seem to easily allow anyone to re-post anyone else's posts to Twitter, Facebook and wherever.

I'm sure the good folks at ECF are working on #1.
Just wondering if #2 is considered a feature to be tweaked or a bug to be removed.

Guessing that if the new buttons were only available on my own posts it wouldn't be such a big deal, as I can simply ad-block them or just not use them.

If you REALLY want to generate some income for ECF just disguise some click-through's as random avatars of Whiskey and Zelda with the note underneath "click to enlarge". :hubba:

Seriously though, Google Chrome is a great browser for ECF, and it only takes a few minutes to install. Even with the buttons the pages still load pretty fast for me. :)
