I'd recommend, based upon your request, an evo from intellicig.com (intellicig-usa.com for USA). They have them in the black but they also have the ones that look just like an analog. They are quality made and I am fond of them. The only downside to this model is the same downside you will find with any model that looks like a real cig; the battery life. They last only 2-3 hours of frequent use on the span of a battery. You can always grab a spare battery with it and keep them both charged... but it can be a bit of a PIA to do that.
I believe intellicig also carries a "disposable" e-cig that is good for x number of puffs but it basically is to see if they would be okay with using an e-cig as an idea. I recently upgraded from the intellicig evo to the Buzz. (A variable voltage mod which you can find at notcigs.com) I JUST got it today so I don't think I'm able to give a proper review of it, but the size is what I like the most about it. It fits in my palm comfortably and will also fit in my pocket. The battery life is supposedly 7-8 hours and the Buzz Pro that should be coming out next month supposedly is double that. Something you may want to look into in the future if your husband does take up vaping.
Best of luck to you!

EDIT: Just saw you are in Australia.

What terrible luck.. from what I've read, the above poster is correct. It is now a 8,000 dollar fine if you are caught with nicotine liquid in AUS. (I'm not sure if that is just through customs or if you are stopped by law enforcement and found to be in possession of it.) I'm really sorry to hear this and I hope your government will get it straightened out soon. =/
