I'm not attempting to preach here, but I use the dry burn constantly. I have three "working" atomizers: One in use, one ready for use, and one being cleaned.
Cleaning cycle:
Ultrasonic cleaner and tap water for 5-10 minutes.
1-2 day dry-out.
Dry burn.
The next step is critical. Like Synthnadz, the atomizer now tastes burnt and the flavor lingers far longer than I can stand. So, it goes back into the ultrasonic/water for another 5-10 minutes. This eliminates the burnt taste.
Then another one-two day dryout.
While I won't dissect an atomizer to check, I can see about half the nichrome coil and wick under the bridge (510). After the cleaning cycle the nichrome is gray and the wick is as white, or nearly so, as new.
I don't attribute a clean wick solely to my method of cleaning. I now mix my own tobac flavors (really sold on flavourart). They are all nearly colorless mixes of PG, VG and PGA with one to three drops flavor per 6 ml liquid rather than the brown/yellow of Dekang or other Chinese flavors. My suspicion is that the burnt crust so often seen is from one or more of the components of Chinese liquids.
