No problem guys, as I said, it`s not the prettiest, but it works.
This is it built up, I have left a piece of kanthal hanging out the hole so as you can see what I mean

2nd one is with the nut unscrewed, here you will see the hole in the grub screw

This is a closeup of the grub screw, you can clearly see the hole through it for the kanthal, and also the 2 ss nuts, which have been rounded off to make them smaller, this enables them to sit right up close to the wick.

This one shows the higher post, which is a tight fit into the hypodermic, therefore enabling me to adjust the height of it, depending on how many wraps of kanthal I am using

Last one shows both posts, in relation to the wick, very close, but still not touching.

It could certainly do with some tidying up, but it works good, and only takes a minute to slacken two nuts and change the kanthal/wick.

Thanks for the great pics my friend. So you used a stainless steel hypo syringe to run down thru the tubes instead of using the silver wire correct? Did you solder the sryinge tubing to the leg on the switch also or you used something else.
I am going to try to solder mine this afternnon if i have some time from the small RC parts that i have and see if it will work. I am not a good solderer so it will take me few hrs where it will take you guys 2 minutes lolol. If i can get it done i will try to post some pics.
Yours is a real nice connection and it looks just fine to me. Well done and thanks for posting.

This is just a home made genisis, that goes on to any mod with a 510 connection, it`s not one of POC`s kits ! and yes, I used two ss syringe`s instead of the wires running up through the tank. I soldered one little piece of 1.6mm ss rod to the side of the 510 connection, then another piece straight through the centre post on the 510, I then gave them a little kink so as they were lining up with the holes in the top cap, and finally soldered two pieces of hypo needle over the little rod ends, and they ran straight up through the holes in the top cap, there was no need to seal them as they were a tight fit.

u_couple, real slick, that is an ingenious fastening system indeed. Drilling a hole in the SS screw, is that a drill press sort of operation? Sounds daunting. It looks like there is a fair amount of material left on the nuts, might it be easier to get a grip on them if you flattened two sides and make something of a smaller nut.

Not sure if it is feasable, but in your description I thought it was something like insert the loose kanthal end into the hole and then wind it up by turning the screw, tightening the kanthal. I have a cheese slicer that does this, guitars do too. I suppose it would work with a nut for a socket and a screw with a hole.

As you said it looks close to the mesh. You must have to take care with clearance between the kanthal wrapped around the mesh and the nuts.
Do you have tips for soldering SS? SS to brass. I need them...

All I can tell you is that I use flux specifically for soldering SS, I also know that using this flux allows me to solder almost all types of metal ! I can`t see a brand name but I do know that it contains hydrochloric acid !! anything that I do solder that may come into contact with the human skin, mouth etc, needs to be washed in a solution of bicarbonate of soda (to neutralise the acid)

Drilling a hole in the SS screw, is that a drill press sort of operation? Sounds daunting.

It was actually very easy, first off I clamped one of the nuts that I used in a small drill press vice, centre punched right in the centre of one of the flat sides, and drilled a hole right through. Then it was just a case of screwing my grub screw into the nut, far enough to get the hole where I wanted it,and then drilling right through the holes I had previously drilled, I got a hole right through the centre of the grub screw. I have kept the nut to use as a "jig" in case I need to drill any more grub screws

I've seen those crimp tubes at online jewelry stores and have wondered about them. You're using 1.00mm silver wire right? It's also good to know they work w/ both kanthal gauges.

BTW, I see your link above for 1.33mm crimp tubes but didn't see them at JoAnn fabrics like you mention in the video. We have a store an hour away but checked online first.

I didnt think that I was going to do well with this either, and it took me the better half of a month to get it going, but you can too. Be patient with yourself. There is plenty of others here that have been through the rounds already and are willing to share their knowledge. I found it much more rewarding once I got through it and can say 'I did that', versus just buying something.
The biggest hurdles are good soldering, and good coil wraps. Both can be learned.

Good find with those crimp tubes Weapon. BTW a long number of pages back there was talk with JensB and myself of tiny jewelery springs to use for the kanthal. The ones I got were silver plated and the plating fused the spring together, so they were pretty much useless. These tubes look great for holding the kanthal securely.

I can't speak for him, but as I understand it he doesn't wanting anyone selling them. He owns the patent and gave us this design providing no profit was made.

Sounded like he didn't want anyone selling for profit or any significant manufacturing. He made mention of some German group that make 20 or 30 of them for use among themselves that he was fine with. He was OK with Peaceoffcake making 30 or so kits. PM him and ask.

Yes the silver wire is 1mm, plugged the top hole w/ food safe silicone. Just put a dab on a flat ended toothpick and applied it from the inside. Its holding good for now. You're right...its not online...hmm. Definitely were in store here in OH.

What are others using for a plug? been thinking about jb weld...I kind of assumed the only toxins were only prevalent during the cure. Please correct me if im wrong.

No I did not crimp them...wanted them to be easy to get off. Make sure to get the 1.3 and not the 1.5. I was testing the 1.5 through the packaging in the store w/ my genesis and almost got them cause they seemed to fit with the extra padding, but then decided to trust the math. The manufacturers precision does seem to fluctuate a bit. Some are slightly looser than others. which ended up working out because I was able to find a set where once I slid them on, the was just enough slack for me to pull the kanthal tighter and still hold it after I folded the kanthal slack down. Also, add a tiny bit of juice in the tube, itll slide on easier.

The spring idea is brilliant, if they could be found pure silver. The tubes definitely hold it secure. I was having some issues with getting a good wrap and then 2 hrs later it coming loose from either heat or condensation...not sure, but now they've stayed put for 12+ hrs.
