I'd say yes and no on the lathe. In stock form you won't be able to adjust the height of the tooling very easily, which is essential. I actually have one of those in the back room at work that i used to use alot. I upgraded since then, but for brass, small aluminum, delrin, etc, it will cut it.

If you are interested in the mini tooling check out littlemachineshop.com. They sell some nifty stuff for the small machine tools.

something like this enables height adjustment and quick change abilities. LittleMachineShop.com - Quick Change Tool Post Set by A2Z CNC

Man, I'm like a kid in a candy store whenever I visit that site. If I had a disposable income, I'd be ordering all kinds of wonderful toys, err.. I mean tools.

I wanted to get myself a mini lathe last year, but was talked out of it when I was told they wouldn't be able to handle stainless steel very well. I'd have to spend well over a grand to get something powerful enough.

Some day..... :)

mines definitely not disposable...but I do save money from not smoking....a bit here a bit there...plus I hope to come up w a design I can patent and sell to someone willing to crank them out...I'm like Raidy I just invent em, I don't want the hassle of production....I'm just a simple man w grand dreams.I hope to see them through to completion...

Power is only half of the battle. Rigidity is a big deal with materials like stainless. the lathe i run was cheap at like 30k (if you've ever priced cnc lathes you'll understand why i call that cheap), and it'll handle stainless just fine. The cheap mini lathe doesn't like it too much. I have turned some stainless on it, but it is time consuming and usually the finish is less than desired. for aluminum it works well though it is too small for many things.

tanks and smaller parts would be fine, a battery tube may or may not fit.

Hello--

As promised, here are a couple of the tweaks I came up with to address some of the issues I had with my Hybrid Mini.

At this point, it's performing like a champ. I can chain vape this thing until I can't stand anymore and it just keeps making vapor. I didn't show the o-rings, but for the leaking issue I had, I put five (5) 18ga o-rings on both leads in the battery end of the atty, then used 2 layers of heat shrink to hold them in place on the wires and prevent any possible reactions with the juice and exposed leads.

On the top cap I put 3 o-rings on each side. The heat shrink keeps them in from the bottom and the bend in the wires + the stainless wire retainers I made up hold them in place up top.

The retainers are made of a 17ga needle from an ink refill kit, lol. I cut it into 1/2" or so pieces and used a precision 3 sided file with a point on the end to lightly notch and then make the holes in the needle. Works like a charm and it's cheap and easy to do.

I'll take some pics of the actual o-rings next time I have to tear down for cleaning if anyone wants to see how that is done. That may be a little while though :). So far it's gone a week on the coil and mesh and it's still going quite strong.

The switch is held in place with hot melt glue. It actually does not stick to stainless at al so it can be popped out easily and protects the solder connections from shorting and from getting overly stressed from the occasional tug and pull of adjusting the kanthal (now a thing of the past for me unless I want to change the amount of resistance I'm giving the coil, lol) and replacing the mesh.

Hope this helps some of you out there who are having some trouble with setup and upkeep.

hahahahahahaha :)

I'm actually quite a ways north of Miami on the east coast. I've been working with a machinist so I might have a brandy new mod to play with soon :)

I'm designing a US spec mod that is going to be a mix of ideas from the Hybrid Mini and the MODULRA with illuminated touch switch, threaded tank and one piece center section to eliminate the possibility of leaks into the electronics or battery and to make cleaning and atty changes a breeze.

Once it's finalized and a prototype built I'll post pics of it. I know there's another us coop going on but I have not heard much from them and they are leaning more towards a 510 mod than a full mod where I want to do both with mine :)

If Raidy OK's DIY kit sales I will likely offer a limited number...probably somewhere in the 20-100 unit range. Not sure what they'll cost though until I get some numbers from the shop.

A needless power leech. Make sure you also include a kill/master switch if you go touch.

Yes but properly designed removes a part that will wear...My latest mod uses a separated contact touch switch as a safety in the case of forgetting to turn of the mod. Mine will not activate unless you pour 5 dollars in pennies in your pocket...lol besides some people like frills even if us utilitarian types scoff at the waste.....

I agree, the illuminated switch is a needless power leech. The beauty of the kit though is that you have the option of putting the led in the switch or not. The master switch of course is part of the design but there are a number of ways to do it. I was thinking something really clean like a 1/4 turn pin or cam lock as part of the battery tube that engages/disengages the battery mechanically and cannot be accidentally turned on or off.

In any case, the lit up switch would look cool and I'd use it in my personal device so I'd include it in the kit if it becomes available so others will have the choice as well.

I went with willpro's. I followed a link to his Czech site, and through the miracles of Google Translate, I saw that I really liked his setup. My problem has been that I don't do technical drawing and I am not a machinist. I have great ideas, and know exactly how I want it, but feel bad wasting the time of a large machine shop to help me design a piece or two that won't really cost that much. So when I saw the drawings on his site, it was what I needed to get the process started. It isn't exactly what I want, but it will get me started. From there I can go to the machinist and talk them through the changes I want to make.

It is the willpro13 design found here

It is made to fit on an Ego I think. I don't even have one, but I will get a manual batt or two to get this working. Once I do, then I will talk to the machinist to fit it to my chuck and work in the pins that you used for your connections.. I am excited, I have been reading this thread and Raidy's thread religiously trying to figure out how to get started without wasting time and effort.:matrix:

I like willpro's design for fitting to an ego. To fit to the chuck all you need to do is have the machinist remove the 10.8mm tapered piece at the bottom. It might save you the time of building one then the other :)

You might just want the ego part anyway though, you'd have a nice small genesis for more discrete vaping without having to give up your genesis.

You may also want to ask the machinist to change it to SAE measurements so you will be able to get parts in the US and not have to send out overseas or scour lab supplies for them. It will end up very close to the same size and it will be much easier to get parts when you need them.

poland, and the brassy lands of google
Just for clarification, it's Michal Jansto's mod, the 'Willpro 13'.

As an idea, if I were to get 2M of 20/16 extruded plexi, bring it to the US in June to redistribute, might anyone be interested? I'm not real certain I want this myself as mine seems quite durable and I've already got about 1.85M of 15/13. Also, I'm not sure if Peace got extruded as he did mention getting replacement tubing as it wasn't 100% round.
