So I got my rm2 last night wrapped up a coil and wicked it.

It is:
2.3 ohm ( too high for me, but using a kick, so no worries right now
Cvs rolled cotton( short wick, wicks well)
30 ga kanthal
2 o rings used, one in the cup, one in the cap to line up my coil and air hole to my preferred grip ( air hole pointing away from button)

Sooo.... Throat hit and flavor aren't there. It's not as airy as I thought it would be, but could definitely use both the air flow control ring ( hint hint Rob :). ) and that space reducer...

I know I need to lift the cool for the throat got, and I know I need to pull it out towards the air hole for flavor. I'm working on it! I want this to work and I'm gonna try try til I'm satisfied with the vape. Getting used to the side air hole... No blind squonking ( whine, whine) lol
I'm heading to a funeral for my new gf's grandma, and ice got a family party later, but somewhere in between I'm gonna wrap a new coil with those position changes and post pics. I did a pretty good job I think for my first micro in months, and without annealing the wire ( lost my only lighter.... Lol)

It's REAL easy to build on the RM2. Easy like woah.
And it looks pretty on Serenity :)

I would still wrap the coil for lower resistance if you are not happy with the throat hit. Use less wraps. Second thing that takes some practice is getting the coil placed right, since the air hole can't move to fit your build. When I install my coil, I make sure it starts where the squonk hole is. The coil should be a little bit over the hole.

I know it's been stated a billion times before, so I apologize... but that coil really needs to be right up next to the air hole. Being able to adjust the airhole position so it falls right in line with the coil is definitely more important than positioning it where it points up when vaping.

As for the airflow, it's really easy to widen it out a bit. since it's brass you can work in a steel mandrel and stretch it bit by bit to get it perfect just the way you like it =)

Just posted this on another thread. Thought it might help you here also.

The RM2 is very simple. But coil positioning is a bit tricky at first. The couple mm of movement up, down, towards the posts or towards the air hole can make a huge difference. That along with coil ohms.

I found that just building a few coils and then working with each on positions gave me a good idea of where I need to be. Then it was easy and quick to make a coil and put it just where I knew it would produce great flavor, heat, and vapor!

I didn't explain well enough... The I ring in the cup lines my coil up with the up position... I ring in the cap lines the air hole up with my coil.

And when I said it's airy, I meant TOO. Airy lol. I like me a tight draw on my pretty short and chubby....
Atomizers. Yea, atomizers. :)

Flavor is still meh, but I don't think I can get it any further forward lol. It's about two ohm( didn't take the longer legs into account) but I was still getting better out if the vapage atty. do you guys see anything wrong here?

Edit: I get the fullest flavor when I.. Carb hit? I put my finger over the hole and release a few times over the hit.

I'm almost there... Try 4 and I can taste the sweetness a little... Smaller diameter, 1.6 ohm, about the same positioning. The drip tip already has a small inner diameter Karen... Lol. I'm almost there though! Last try for today ( tiny wick) I'm gonna see how this works for me. I'll keep playing when my son goes home tomorrow. Happy new years eve everyone!

Just for "kicks"...no pun intended. Try it without the kick....take a 1.4mm electronics screwdriver or a jumbo paper clip and give it 5-6 wraps...micro coil. Get your coil out as close to the air hole as you can and about center with it...maybe a little higher. I think you will find that a little sub ohm without your kick installed will be closer to vaping heaven than you have ever been. It was for me anyway. I had to teach myself to forget about the 1.8 to 2.2 ohm heads that I used to use with my Vamo vv. Once you get past that thought and go totally mechanical you will never go back....just my :2c:

Put a small piece of clear tape over your air hole...poke it with a pin and slowly increase the size to get the draw you want. I thought my RM2 was to airy at first and this helped. In the month I've had it with different coil builds and amounts of cotton for the wick.... the tape is history and boring the hole bigger have entered my mind more than once...you will find that AAAAHHHHHHHHHH moment and there is no looking back.

you make a nice clean coil…

I'd agree with thicker wire, more wraps but not more than 8 to 10… and less cotton is good.
I'd aim for a lower resistance… without heading you into danger, anything a little over 1 ohms should be safe, granted you use a good batt.

There is also the nano dragon build… which is a sub ohns usually but i'm sure 1.2 Ohms or so would be trick… (use IMR or high drain batt, meter your coils)
Dragon is like cotton under and some on top of coil and (hopefully) air hole hitting one side of coil to go through the open coil.

Thank you for the coil praise :) it could certainly be better ( in fact the itty bitty one from this last run looks a lot cleaner)

I'll be honest guys.... I never use unprotected mech mode for long... It scares me :( having to constantly worry about whether my battery has enough charge left in it to be considered safe is not something I like thinking about... I'm an absentminded and constant vaper lol. I'm gonna try a low ohm build in mech mode but even if it works for me... That is, it satisfies me ( I know I can build it) I still don't know long I'd use it. It just seems dangerous to me. I know most of you use your reos in this exact way, and I'm not trying to say your all crazy danger seekers lol

Yeah the more wraps of coil usually gives more flavor. U just got to make the diameter smaller to keep resistance down. How tight u roll your wick makes a difference too. It's just something you have to tinker with till you find your spot. That's when your gonna say Wow! Now I see what those crazy people meant by vape heaven.

Different juices are gonna taste better at different temperatures too. There's no right or wrong answer just your own trial and error. Took me 3 foot of 28g till I found the perfect setup for me
