Unsatisfied with most of the shop bought juice I've tried, and with my previous ADV, Castle Long by five pawns, being outted as a rich soup of diketones, I've been experimenting with unflavoured DIY.

I have to say I like it.

12mg 50/50 was nice, a little bitter from the PG but very vapable.

12mg 40/60 was better, being sweetned slightly by the VG and a bit smoother, but I found it too thick for ideal wicking in my KFv4 with fully opened airflow.

Adding 10% distilled water made it really viscous and it wicks a treat, but I sense the water has added a slightly harsh feel to the vapour.

I've been on unflavoured for almost two weeks now, and will try some more variations.

Perhaps 5% water and maybe a 35/65 blend.

I'm going to try to find my perfect unflavoured blend before I even start to add flavours. Frankly speaking I may take to unflavoured as my ADV.

Anyone else using unflavoured? What's your preferred blend?

I'm not to wild about unflavored but following some advice from DannyV, I've been adding a drop or two of koolada and it really does the trick for me. Sometimes I add a couple drops of one of my tobacco flavors as well. It still gives me a good taste bud reset plus I think it's helping me taste better when I go back to my full flavored mixes.

How does unflavored taste like?

I find it has a very clean and subtle flavour. The PG is a little bit bitter, the VG is quite sweet, and the nic has less flavour but adds some harshness to the vapour.

Not all unflavoured will taste the same depending on where the ingredients were sourced, and the percentages in the blend.

I'm still unsure of the effects of water on the blend as I've only just started experimenting with this

Do report back with how do you think water affects your mixes. I'm just starting to experiment with water in my mixes as well (flavoured) and I'm generally quite curious to try again 100% VG unflavoured diluted with water this time.

The water to me opens up the flavor, to be able to better taste the slight neutral sweetness of the vg and the nice tobacco notes of the nic.

Additionally, then besides really adding in enhanced wicking, then the boiling point is reduced, meaning you get more "crackle", as the evaporation is done at a higher rate than before, so you get more flavor, vapor and throathit(from the more nic evaporated).

Unflavored indeed has a flavor, and a nice one no less, but it's obviously more subtle than your regular flavored liquids, but this, to me and others, is a really nice thing for an adv, since you will always grow tired of all those powerfull flavors and hence, will need to rotate those in and out, in a never ending circulation.

Flavors where a nice novelty in the beginning, but in the end I just grown really tired of inhalling creme, custard, cake and fruit flavored vape all day throughout, and so a nice more neutral, but still tastefull vape, is much more enjoyable for me now, plus the minimized coil/wick gunking is also great...

@mhertz
Can I ask what percentage of distilled water you tend to go for, and you PG/VG ratio if you have a preference?

I can confirm that it seem to me that water definetly adds more crackling, and maybe a little bit of spitting (should be able to eliminate that with wicking, still just starting to experiment). I don't know about greater flavour, but the mix and ingredients do seem more blended and definetly wicks impressively better. Definetly see a lot of benefit in adding water in my mixes from first impressions, but wondering if I'm noticing the same as you @Caterpiller - maybe the vape seem a little bit harsher or drier should I say, but can't really say for now. Plus my usual TC mod is broken and I would love to experiment around with that when it comes back.

Somewhere out there
I've been vaping unflavored as my all-day every-day choice for about 6 weeks now.

I like Vaper's Tek Throat Hit nic Throat-Hit Nicotine - 1000 mL - Vapers Tek mixed 50/50 PG/VG. At 50/50, I find the sweetness of VG hides the slight bitterness of the PG.

I've also noted differences in the taste of PG by itself, could have been age or less than perfect storage conditions, but the fresh bottle I have tastes much better than the old bottle (same brand). It's a little bitter on inhale and slightly sweet on exhale.

As much as I like unflavored, I just filled a KFL and added 2 drops of menthol to the tank. I may be going back to just a touch of menthol.

I'm not sure if I would like it in a tank set up, but using unflavored with just a hint of something in an RDA is wonderful. 70/30 vg/pg and just a drop or two of a flavor (+ a tiny bit of nic) in 30 ml bottle. Sometimes I only make 20 ml, but I still use the 30 ml bottle. I've found that when I do want a flavored e-liq, I can use much less of a flavor now then I used to use.

+1 steelgirl. I only drip the past couple of years and its quite amazing how long I can perceive a flavor on the wick. Unflavored with a drip of flavor maybe once every couple of hours. These flavors I used to vape all the time, are now a bit much. Bonus is I can carry & vape various flavors on the go. Win win.

I use only unflavored or slightly flavored (0.5-2% of flavor). Tried just VG+water. When more than 10% water - then unpleasant "crackling". With 10% of water wicking is OK (kayfun, taifun), but just OK. Tried 10% water and
5% pure alcohol - wonderful wicking, but a bit harsh vape to my taste.

So what's your unflavoured ADV @Alien Traveler ?

It sounded like none of your MAX VG blends above created your perfect vape, so I wondered what blend you find yourself vaping all day?

Why not add a little PG instead of the alcohol?
I like low throat hit, so I was experimenting with no PG juice. I have found out that nic gives much more throat hit than PG. Right now I am vaping 30/70 PG/VG/
