I'm not saying what you did was wrong, but this is how the public's perception of smokers gets skewed. From a distance maybe someone thought you were having an analog. I would be ...... if I were in a non smoking setting and someone lit up.
Kind of like someone taking a handicap parking space without being handicapped.
Hopefully one day the NO SMOKING signs will be replaced with VAPORS WELCOME.

I vape in public all the time. There are 3 bars in my city that I am aware of that allow the use of e-cigs and I spend time at all 3 of them.

I have also vaped in bars where I wasn't certain about their rules and have yet to have anyone get snotty with me or call the cops.

I do, though, make it a point to see if I can speak with the manager of an establishment before I start vaping. I like to make sure it's ok with them before I just start puffing.

Thus far I haven't been refused. Most people are very curious about it and enjoy the concept.

You got lucky. I got pulled over driving down the road by an officer so confused by the blue light and smoke he swore to every known deity that I had a high-tech drug pipe. It took almost two hours for him to search me, the penstyle and my car before i could explain to him what it was.

In retrospect I cant blame the guy, but it was rather annoying.

This is what I am afraid of. Many years ago, I had a pipe that looked like the super mini.

The worst (or best, if you have a sick sense of humor like I do) part about the story is that the little effer was clearly calling the cops because he didn't want you to enjoy a cigarette. He was not bothered by any smoke. He wasn't at any heightened risk for cancer. He simply felt that as a citizen of a smokeless indoor world, it was his right, his priviledge, to control some aspect of your actions. He got to call the police cops on someone, woooo! that's how I wish I could spend a Friday night, boy.

At least you had a smart cop. Mine was a dumb .... Today I was approached by a cop for smoking. I explained what was it, showed him the battery, the atomizer and the cartridge and in return I got a fine. 25euros for smoking in a no smoking zone.

You should be able to contest that, though I don't know the laws outside of America. Smoking here is defined as having an ignition source, burning, etc. And by all definition it's not smoke, so you can't really get a ticket for something you didn't do..

Then again, that's wrong because I know people who have been ticketed for things they didnt' do. Hell, in perfect honesty I once got a DUI charge and went to jail, though I hadn't drank alcohol in 2 days, and even then it was 1 glass wine. Months since my last drink before then. So as you see, I do not drink. Somehow, the breathilizer still said I had alcohol in my breath and that was when I was a minor. To top that off, I had these terrible blisters on the bottoms of my feet for walking around barefooted in the city, and I couldn't pass their sobriety tests; couldn't even follow the light with my eyes. Kept turning my head. So as you see, the system is flawed for people with unfortunate circumstance :/

California, where else?

I was sitting in a truckstop vaping after my meal and chatting with a few fellow truckers when this cop walked in and came straight at me. I knew what he was after before he got to me.

He informed me in his best official voice that someone called and reported that I was smoking in the building. I gave him my best innocent look (which I'm not very good at) and asked him if he saw or smelled any smoke. He admitted that he didn't but insisted that 'someone" had observed me smoking.

I held up my e-cig, took a nice drag on it, and blew out the vapor. I then asked him again if he saw or smelled any smoke. He was a bright boy because he caught on pretty quickly and asked me if that was "one of those new smokeless electric things".

I confirmed that it was indeed "one of those smokeless electric things" and unscrewed the atomizer from the battery to show him. He was all "well, ummm, ok, I guess that's alright then, I'm just doing my job" and walked off.

I was laughing my .... off and hoping that whatever idiot had made the call instead of approaching me was watching.

Well, ok, I have to admit that I am not a little fellow so I can understand why they might not have felt comfortable approaching me, but still... it was funny to me. The other drivers got a pretty good laugh out of it too.

I had a similar experience in the New York City subway system (where it is illegal to smoke). I was walking down the platform puffing on my cig when I pass a cop. I just knew that he was going to stop me but I made believe that all was hunky dory and kept walking. Of course, he calls out to me "Excuse me sir" all polite as he was about to write up a summons. I just turned and said "It's not a cigarette". That was the end of it. I love this stuff. I am always waiting for someone to say something to me. Often times, someone accosting me will end up being a customer so I always keep a few extra cigs in the car .
