something a bit rugged, perhaps?

considering most e-cigs and mods seem a tad fragile, has anyone figured out a mod for soldiers/outdoorsmen/clumsy, forgetful people? here's my thoughts...a steel, hinged box with gaskets, sealed on-off switch and button, everything inside surrounded by a comforting layer of foam, with room inside for an atty/carto and a 3ml bottle of juice. the only part i'm having a problem figuring out is the atty fitting. maybe isolate it from the rest of the stuff somehow?

Bubo, you forget about the B. Booster. An ego's cone makes it a pretty durable choice too as the cone protects the connector. Here's the Booster in panzer-mode:

I haven't got 3/8" brass tubing, but a brass washer with a couple of notches brazed to a 3/8" compression ring do the trick nicely.

BTW, brazing is fun :)

Something similar to the UMP or the new Reo mini would probably work for somebody who preferred the box mod type feel too.

I imagine you could seal the inside of the door well enough, and for the atty connector I'm thinking something along the lines of the valve connector on inflatables, you could have a little rubber stopper that flips out to allow the atty to screw on, then pops back in place with the atty off to seal the unit.

If you left space inside to store the atty you'd probably have a pretty solid, watertight PV.

Bubo, the first of the series actually, it's here: http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/modders-forum/117481-brass-booster.html

Penguin, sounds good but you forgot the switch. There are rubber/silicone pushbutton covers that would do it for the water resistance. Waterproof I don't know if I would trust, seems better to have another case especially for that.

As for foam lining, memory foam would be a nice choice.

If anybody comes up with one of these rugged mods and wants some real world testing done. I will volunteer my services. I can test how well it will hold up to sand and dust now, and in a few months when it finally does rain I will test the water resistance. More than likely a few drops from 5-15 feet and If requested I can arrange a drop from a helicopter to test durrability. :D

What about a pelican case/otter box with a sealed atty connector and capacitive switch?

Northstar makes a ruggedized box that's 4.4x3.05x1.4 that looks promising.

Wouldn't be the smallest mod, but it would be able to take a beating as long as all internals are secure, and soldering good, j-std class 3 (mil-spec) preferably.

No moving parts, durable, and waterproof.

Might try to build something similar if they make the boxes in a small enough size and if I can figure out how to make a touch sensitive switch.
