I bought the Joye 510 for my husband because, even though he was smoking outside, the smoke residue on his clothing was causing respiratory problems for me and our two year old son. At first his use of the Joye 510 seemed fine. But in the past few days, it seems to be producing as much or more smoke than a regular cigarette. His hair and clothing have a strong tobacco odor on them as much or more than a regular cigarette when he comes back into the house. Even my husband admitted that when he smelled his shirt, it had a strong cigarette odor that was very unpleasant. Any ideas of what could be going wrong, and how to fix it?:(

You might want to up the nic level of the juice he's using. I found it easier to quit the analogs after going to a higher level. But it definately sounds like he's still smoking analogs, like it was mentioned by JohnKing it takes a while to ween off the analogs. I went down from a pack a day to half a pack, then to 1/4 a pack, then 2 cigs and finally 1 a day, all over a 3 week period.

If you smell something from the PV at all, it would be like fresh tobacco, as if you opened a pack of smokes and smelled the package (not like burnt butts or second hand smoke). You'd have to sniff the juice itself in the bottle or carto to smell this...very little if any odor hangs with the vapor on tobacco flavors. It is possible he might be spilling a bit of it on his fingers...then wiping it on his clothes as he fills, but I doubt it would be a very 'strong' thing.

If you stand beside him and can indeed verify that the vapor has a smell...no problem, just change to a different e-juice that doesn't do this :) SOME e-liquids do give off aromas...particularly some of the cigar and many of the dessert flavors.

Also keep in mind...

When someone in the house smokes...
Everything in that house picks up smoke smells and hangs on to them for a long time. Yes, even if they are banished outside or to a specific room for smoking...that junk carries through everything the smoker touches.

As the smoker quits...everyone in that house finds their sense of smell getting better...and that old stale/burnt ciggy .... smell becoming 'offensive'.

It will take a while to wash that smell out of the house and all your family's clothes! Heck, the smell is probably even stuck in your washer and dryer for a while....spreading it to other clothes.

It'll take a few months to get the ciggy chems out of his body too. Breath, sweat, tears, etc, may take a while to clear of the tobacco odors and colors.

Be patient, and hang in there...you'll all love it once he's kicked the smoking :)

or he is probably going to a place where there is a lot of people smoking or is close to someone who does (say someone who rides with him in a car).. ive been smoking for about 9months and no amount of vaping comes close to me smelling like analogs.

if he still smokes analogs its probably because his ecig doesnt last the whole day so he goes back to his regular smokes, or he doesnt find his ejuice good enough for his taste either it taste funny or its nic strength is strong enough.

He's (obviously to me) not getting what he needs from vaping. He may need a better PV, stronger or different flavor juice, or he's not ready to quit smoking. From your post, it sounds like vaping was your choice, not his. He may have a passive-aggressive streak. Many vapers don't find satisfaction until they have tried multiple pv's & juices. Get him in ECF to do a little research so vaping can be his personal choice & not an ultimatum. Finally, it takes a lot of people awhile to quit smoking altogether. If he's cut his smoking from a pack a day down to just a few, he is on his way to success already. Be supportive & encouraging of his progress so far. It's not easy to give up cigarettes.

One of two things is going on. Either he's wearing something that hasn't been washed since he smoked like a jacket or he's sneaking cigarettes. IMO he's probably sneaking cigarettes.

You haven't said how long he's had the PV. If you expected him to start using the PV and not smoke immediately, your expectations may not be reasonable. Some people do that and more power to them. I didn't and neither did a lot of people on here. What I did was have 3 or 4 cigarettes a day and use my PV all I wanted in between. After a few weeks, the cigarettes weren't all that enjoyable anymore and i quit using them. Other people on here have done the same.

+1 to the comments about talking to him about getting the nic level right.

Also +1 to the comments about him sneaking cigs.

If it walks like a duck, and it quacks like a duck, it IS a duck.

If it smells like a cigarette, it IS a cigarette. There's simply no way a PV can smell like a cigarette.

Have patience. He didn't develop this habit overnight, and he won't leave it behind overnight either. He smoked when you married him, I imagine. He smokes less now. It's progress.

Give him time to keep progressing. ANd send him to this forum- the best resource I've found for ecig users.

It's probably cigs if it smells really bad. But there are some tobacco flavored eliquids that are a bit pungent and actually do annoy my fiance - Turkish blends. I needed the nutty pungent Turkish blends like Desert Ship to get past cravings for an analog and Turkish does smell a bit. So if he is using a Turkish blend or maybe even a Perique or a something like FSUSA Purecig, I think it would smell more than many other tobacco flavored eliquids.

+1 Someone here has encountered whatever problem he's having and this is a helpful bunch. If he wants to switch (it's not quitting), the people here will help him.

If you find that he is still smoking, try not to take it personally. This is a powerful addiction.

The worst part about that smell, was taking a shower and picking up a "clean" towel, only to smell cigarettes on it.... I can't remember how long it took to get that smell out.

I won't reiterate what's already been said....but I'm quite certain they're correct.

I vape in the house all the time and nobody knows when I'm in my office vaping away. I don't smell of smoke, because I'm not smoking. You might try getting him some coffee flavor if you really think it's the vapor that's smelling. Coffee e-juice is quite close to tobacco flavor in its satisfaction level to some, myself included.

Your husband is still smoking regular cigarettes. What nicotine strength liquid did you buy? It probably isn't enough to satisfy his needs. I use 24mg and it's perfect for me. And why is he going outside to use his e-cig? I assure you, the vapor it produces is not smoke and there is no way it would bother you or your child. So he should use it inside the house. No reason at all to go outside.

Thank you everyone. It was my husband's idea to get the Joye 510. He has been trying to quit smoking for 14 years.

I don't think the current issue is him sneaking regular cigarettes. My husband was standing right in front of me vaping the Joye 510 and I saw all the smoke coming out and smelled it. If not for the blue tip, I would have thought it was a regular cigarette. When he was using it in the back entry way, I could smell it in the bedroom, and I went and saw him standing there with the Joye 510.

He doesn't have any regular cigarettes, and has not been anywhere to purchase them or smoke them.

The E juice he is using is called US tobacco E liquid, so it is designed to resemble a real cigarette. Could that be the problem? Is he using too much E liquid? Could something be wrong with the e cig itself, or the cartridges, or the way he is filling them?

Is the Joye 510 supposed to produce smoke? If so, how would one be able to use it indoors in smoke free areas?

It does not produce smoke. To produce smoke, you must have combustion. There's no combustion in a PV. It's vapor and it's really hard to believe it drifts through the house as you have described. If it's really a PV, you must have a nose that a bloodhound would envy. Usually people right next to me can't smell mine.

It looks like you can't tell the difference between a cigarette and vapor.
There is no way he could smell like a cigarette if he is going outside and vaping.

For some reason...I smell fowl with the OP... just sayin...
