I have mild-to-moderate COPD and am also blessed with adult-onset asthma - I quit analogs a bit less than three weeks ago.
Used to be I'd wake up feeling pretty rotten every morning until the inhaled meds kicked in and my blood oxygen levels returned to something closer to normal. More often than not now I forget to take my inhaled meds, which is something I *never* did when I was still smoking and it's only been 19 days. I've discussed going off the daily inhaled meds with the spousal unit and just using a rescue inhaler if I need it but she's kinda dead set against the idea until I talk to my pulmonologist and she's probably right.
Don't get me wrong - I still have the lung capacity of a ten-year old, but after about the third day I quit waking up sick in the morning, i'm not coughing up hairballs any more and I haven't felt this good in years. My lung doc says he doesn't care if I have nicotine as long as I'm not smoking sickarettes and I've got pretty close to a couple thousand prescription Nicrotrol inhaler cartridges laying around the house.
This is the best thing I've done in years.
