I smoked for quite a few years. Smoked cigars. Smoked cuban cigars. Smoked a pipe. Rolled my own. Smoked black tobacco. Blonde tabacco. Cheap ciggies. Imported ciggies. Herbal ciggies. Menthols. (YUCK.) Light cigs. Strong cigs. Filter cigs. Non-filter cigs. If you can burn it and inhale it, I have probably smoked it.

I know from smoke. ;-)

And no, a 510 (or any "electronic cigarette") does NOT produce smoke. It produces a vapor that looks like smoke, but isn't smoke. The two main differences are that it dissipates rapidly and disappears totally. And the smell.

That's why many of us who wouldn't smoke inside don't hesitate to use the PVs. (And mine is a 510.) Because, when I fog up the kitchen with my 510, as I am right now, with RY4 (tobacco and some sort of caramel), and I wife walks in 10 seconds after I put the 510 down, she cannot tell if I have been "smoking." Try that with a "real" smoke.

I agree. Something is not right.

Can't imagine what, though. If your hubby isn't smoking real cigs, then you shouldn't smell them. And no, there is nothing that you can do with an electronic cigarette, no matter how much liquid you use, or which, that will make it smell the same. It's just a different thing.

If you're smelling real cig smell, or any strong smell at all, after he's used his 510 outside, then some might ask what you have been smoking.

Best,
Ande

My mom was here for a visit this weekend...I've not seen her since I started using the e-cig and stopped smoking in February. So I showed her the 'evolution' of my e-cig devices. I started with the Joye 510, then got a Joye ego and now mostly use the Joye ego-T. We were sitting in my living room...she is extremely sensitive to cigarette smoke, and was amazed that though the vapor produced 'looked like smoke' she could not detect any odor. I used a cappuccino flavor cartridge to demonstrate the 510 and ego to her and my ego-T was loaded with 'luxury blend' mixed with rose flavor. She was fascinated and asked if she could try (the ego-T) ...just to draw off and get an idea of the flavor/vapor - she didn't want to inhale. She coughed slightly just because she's not a smoker (though married to one...my dad...for 16 years, and her second husband was also a heavy smoker) and she did get a bit of an inhale...heck, I was impressed she wanted to hit off the ego-T rather than the more conventional 510.

...my point here is that she was thrilled for me that I quit smoking (after over 30 years - I'm 48) and was fascinated by the process and mechanism of the e-cig and her desire to 'try it' was not that she wanted to use one herself, but that she wanted to understand what it was like - to "get" how the vapor was different than cigarette smoke even though it produces a similar effect. Maybe you might want to consider getting up close and personal to the device for yourself, pull a bit of the vapor into your own mouth (don't try to inhale...it's not necessary just to get the idea of how it tastes and feels). I have a USA tobacco blend (from Liberty Flights) and think it is pretty mild tasting...nothing at all like cigarette "smoke" but rather just a light flavor of the tobacco leaf. You might not care for the flavor - but it should in no way give the impression of heavy cigarette "smoke". If it does, then as you labeled your first post, indeed "something is not right".

My fiance still indulges in smoking a hookah every once in a while, and I have to admit that I kind of like it myself once in a blue moon, but I digress.
The point is that even though he vapes most of the time, I can tell when he's been hitting the hookah or smoked a cigarette. Believe me, there's no mistaking the smell anymore. Vapor only leaves a very slight scent, if any, and it NEVER smells like cigarette smoke. Even if he vapes tobacco flavors it still isn't going to have that "I just smoked a cigarette" stink.

When he was using it in the back entry way, I could smell it in the bedroom, and I went and saw him standing there with the Joye 510.

I think your mind is playing games with you. Or you are playing games. I smoke in my office at work and my boss has come in several times and asked me if I was vaping that day. I said yes, all morning. His response, interesting, all I can smell is the slight smell of flowers.

Bottom line is, there is NO ecig that produces smoke, they produce water vapor. There is NO ecig that will make you or or your clothes smell like cigarette smoke. My husband has NEVER smoked and I vape in the house, usually in my office; I have asked him several times if he smells ANYTHING from my vaping and he has said that he doesn't. The only smell I ever notice is when I open the closet where I store my DIY supplies, I can smell some of the stronger flavorings, i.e. toffee.

And I am really unclear as to how the odor of cigarette smoke on someone's clothing could trigger your health problems. It might make you angry or upset that he smokes, but come on...getting sick because his clothes smelled like smoke? I would love to see the study that says that is even possible. Respiratory problems associated with smoking are caused by the inhalation of second hand smoke, not the residual odor.

Thank you all for your input. It is very helpful. My husband and I will figure it out eventually. I appreciate you taking the time to help a nonsmoker non-vaper like me. My husband himself said that his shirt smelled very strongly of smoke, and he didn't like it either. (The residue left behind by cigarettes remains toxic long after the smoker has stopped smoking, but that is a different issue...third hand smoke, and not about vaping) My husband said he is going to try a non tobacco flavor e liquid, and we can see how that is different. Thanks again.

Something is wrong here. Yes, I could see an especially intense e-juice having 'some' smell and possibly someone wiping e-juice on clothes might leave a residue,
however,
no, it is NOTHING like the 'smell of smoke' at all and a 'tobacco flavor' e-liquid isn't the explanation either. Those might be among the lightest left-over smells.

Put it this way - I can vape in bed, my wife (who is highly sensitive to cigarette smoke) but vape inches away and she cannot smell anything.
I definitely know the smell of cigarette smoke on my clothes but I can vape tobacco flavours e-juice for hours and hours in a closed room and cannot smell so much as a 'hint' of anything.

Something is wrong with that picture. It made me think of an atomizers 'burning out' and the polyester filler thing melting. Yes.. that could leave a smell. A sort of 'burned plastic/metal' kinda of smell. Could that be it?

The only thing that I have vaped that lingered a long time is FrenchToast. Could even smell it the next day - but it does smell good. It is also the only one that my wife will smell in a different part of the house and come in to check if I am vaping that juice again.
So get some of it to cover the other smell...

I vape at work, right at my desk, typically using tobacco flavors and surrounded by non-smokers. Not one person has yet to complain that the vapor in any way shape or form is smelling like a cigarette smoke, leaving smoke like resedue in the air or basically reminds anyone of tobacco smoke.

Something is seriously wrong here... I really don't want to accuse your husband of lying or anything like this, but it's just doesn't sound right...

Do you have a manual or automatic battery? Maybe if it is an auto the sensor is bad and is staying on??? It would be 'hot' if that is what is happening and would smell of melted plastic after all juice was gone. Could you provide some more info... like is it hot to the touch....you said it is producing smoke without him vaping? Can you show pics of that happening? Other than that,??? The only other thing I can think of that smells like a cig IS a cig.

Allright I smoked for 10 years before I switched. I smoked anything that would go up in flames, Cigs, Black and mild's, cheap cigars, nice cigars, cheap pipe tobacco, nice pipe tobacco. The list goes on. I've been vaping for 2mos now, and I can very distinctly smell it when people are smoking, even as far as 100 feet away. I can smell it on clothes, in cars, etc. I even let people smoke in my car (because the smell really doesn't bug me as much).

I won't argue that Nic liquid has no smell because it does have a smell. A very distinct smell based on the flavor that dissipates in UNDER 10 SECONDS. Every flavor, every pg vg nic strength combination, same result, 5-10 seconds of scent. I'm about to try some juices that are considered to be "very strong tobacco like flavors" so I'll see, but I've smoked tobacco flavors before and had no problems.

The question I have is; Is the smell affecting your asthma like the cig residue did? I've been able to vape like crazy in front of, and in the homes of, some very die hard anti-cigarette people. None were offended. The exact quote from my stepfather was "Cigarette smoke is offensive. I don't find that thing offensive at all." I just got a job at a major retail corporation, and I went out to "smoke" The guy who hired me said "I didn't know you smoked, you didn't smell like it at your interview," So I showed him my PV and told him that I smoked for 10 years before switching to this thing and find it far more satisfying.

There is no way in hell that any e-liquid smells like cigarette smoke, It's just not physically possible. There's no fire, no paper, no tobacco and no actual smoke. Sorry, but it's just the way it is. People sneak cigs. I smoked for about a week after getting my first PV.

pv's do not smell like smoke in any way because there is no smoke.

You may not like to hear this, but I think you are smelling tobacco smoke on him for one of two reasons:

1. He is still smoking tobacco cigarettes and becoming a "closet smoker"
2. He is using the pv, but wearing clothes from when he= did smoke tobacco, as tobacco smoke tends to stick and linger on unwashed clothing/hair/etc.

I'm sure he wants to quit the tobacco, but perhaps he is not ready in case of reason number one. Give it time. It took me almost two years to get where I am now. Believe me, it took a lot. After many tries to convert completley to pv's, hypnosis did help me.

Don't nag! Unless you've been a smoker, you have no idea how hard it is to quit.
Many smokers have that 5-10 min not only for a smoke, but for a little mini 'break' from the world- dont bust chops, or youll find that e-cig in the trash! be patient, dont mention it, and let nature take its course- after awhile, the ecig tastes better and is more convenient!

One time I was smoking a cigarette around the corner and my wife gave me a dirty look and I put the e-cig in my mouth, puff some vapor and said "What.. its an e-cig" and the incredulous look on her face was great.

I can think of one particular '555' flavour I had and it was very very fruity and rich and now that I think of it I could smell it on a shirt I had been wearing.
The thing is - all that smells like is a little 'fruit juice' and that is all but burying ones face in the shirt to smell it. Actually.. it smelled kinda nice. More like I'd eaten an apple and got a few drops on my shirt. Maybe I did spill or wipe some on the shirt.
NOTHING at all like cigarette smoke. No comparison at all heh
