Just a thought, but have you been experiencing this "bad taste" since installing the new contacts? If so what was your coil resistance prior to the rebuild and what is it now? A lot of users have had to up their resistance after installing the new contacts. Don't know if it is a factor for you, but it is the only other thing I can think of...

Your coil legs are really long, homie. I get really good results making them rather short, so that the coil just hovers above the juice hole on the deck. Also, your wick tails look a bit long. The best results I have had come from having really short tails on a medium tight cotton wick. If the wick is in there too tight, it won't wick properly. Whenever I have a flavor problem, that is usually the issue. Replace the wick and trim the tails tighter to the coil. Then, as long as you have your coil at the right height - that is, it isn't choking the excess juice from going back into the bottle, you should be good to go.

Are you using the koh gen do cotton? I tried this cotton after putting the new contacts in my grand, and I kept getting a burnt taste. Tried raising my ohms, coil placement etc. and continued having the issues with the taste for whatever reason (maybe I'm frying the tiny little cotton seeds in it??). I switched back to good old cotton balls and the burnt taste disappeared. Btw - I'm running a 1.2ohm 9 wrap 28g 1/16" micro. Taste is back to what I was missing. Hope this might help.

So here's another thought. Is the wire you are using now from the same batch you've used before and had good flavor?

I had an issue similar to this once, but I believe it was on one of my hornets. Same builds all the time (months worth) and for some reason after a rebuild it just wasn't tasting right - lack of flavor. I think I rebuilt a couple times after a good cleaning, then decided to try a completely different juice in it. I came to the conclusion it was more me, although I did adjust my wick density. Very odd. After a bottle of something different, I dry-burned, rewicked and switched back to the juice that gave me problems. It's fine now. Tastes just like I expect it to.

A good way to troubleshoot a problem is to isolate variables.

Was this setup working fine for you before? If so, what did you change before running into the issues you're having?

If it wasn't working well from the start, then I'd look at your other atties. How is the RM2 different from your other atties? Differences such as air hole size and position count. How are your coil setups different from your working setups? Are you running the same resistances and position the coil in relation to the air hole similarly?

In my case, I am troubleshooting my Cyclone setup. My RM2 setup was working great, but I couldn't get my Cyclone to perform similarly. It turned out I was about 2 loops shorter on my Cyclone than my RM2 when I started comparing builds. The resistances were close enough that I did not notice a difference in builds until I laid them side to side. I was also placing the coil much closer and higher in relation to the air hole on the Cyclone than on the RM2.

The RM2 still has a slight edge because my Cyclone has a tendency to be a little less consistent (sometimes it works great and sometimes not so great) but at least I got the flavor and throat hit closer to where I want it to be. All that's left is to fine tune the build until I get where I want the vape to be.

Try moving your coil slightly to the right and raise it a tiny bit. Almost looks like it might be choking the draining/airflow just a bit.

Only other thing that comes to mind is try a higher gauge wire with fewer wraps. Try a 30 or 32 with 4-5 wraps and see how it goes. I use thicker wire in attys other than the RM2, but find 30 gauge to work great in the RM2 with the small deck and limited workspace.

I think if it was touching, it would collapse the spring, no?

Have you double checked the resistance of the built RM2? You might have a loose screw on the posts. Those don't look like stock screws either, have you checked the posts to see if they are loose?
Glad I read this...just wasn't thinking and doh!!! loose screw. :) Thanks!
