So, I should be getting my first kit in the mail either today (hopefully!) or tomorrow for sure. I plan on dropping analogs right from the get go, and I've been curious from my previous attempts at quitting smoking... Will vaping help with the crazy food cravings? Since I'll still be getting the nic, and I'll be replacing the oral fixation, hand to mouth association of smoking with vaping, I'm guessing it won't be as bad as just plain quitting, but thought maybe you guys with more experience could let me know how your process went.

I haven't noticed any crazy cravings, either time I quit analogs to vape. (second go around here) But I do get a empty stomach feeling and I just vape again and wait til I know it's time to eat and drink water (recommended anyway). I think that I get that mostly in the morning because I'm not a breakfast eater. HTH

Everybody is different in how E-cigs effect them when dropping cigs, so I can't tell you how it will effect you. What I can tell you is that my own transition was instantaneous. I didn't even make a conscious decision to stop smoking, it just happened. No heightened food cravings or other substitute addictions. Just wonderful vapor.

What I would suggest to you is not to set any goals or deadlines or make any ultimatums to yourself. The great thing about vaping is that it really is a go-at-your-own-pace kind of thing. Vaping is the best substitute to smoking that there is, and it is eminently capable of replacing cigarettes entirely. But it is best done as stress-free as possible so as to make the transition as natural as possible. It may be that you have no problems at all switching right away and not even thinking twice about it. It may be that you have a sensitivity to the MAOIs in cigarettes and may experience some withdrawal symptoms from that which E-cigs can't give, so you may need to transition more slowly. It may be that you're just nervous about leaving the cigs behind and need a slow transition as a kind of security blanket. You may even have a sensitivity or allergy to PG (in which case you need to try VG-based liquids).

All of that is completely fine. Try it out first when it gets there. See how you like it -- the flavour, the throat hit, the vapor production, the overall feel and experience, and then go from there. If you feel the need to have a smoke, have one. If you feel something is missing form your vaping experience, try and figure out what it is. Need more TH? Try a low resistance cartomizer or atomizer, or bump up your nic level. Need more vapour? Try a juice with more VG in it. More flavour? Try a juice with less VG or extra flavour added (for vendors that offer that). Warmer vapor? LR atty or carto.

There are tons of ways to tailor the experience to your liking, so don't decide right away that you're going to kick the sticks the moment your PV arrives. You might just do that -- but always better to see how the hardware and liquids you ordered work out for you first and see if you need to tweak or entirely change anything first. That way you don't disappoint yourself or feel like you've failed if you feel like you need to go back to tobacco, even partially or temporarily until you work out what works best for you on the E-cig side.

Good luck with it, and I do hope it really does work out for you out of the box. Mine did -- and I didn't even really like the liquid I got too much, but I stuck with it, got better liquid, and really, really loved it. There's simply nothing better to get you off the ciggies.

Thanks for the insight. I'm not too worried about craving analogs during the switch. I had tried a cheapo gas station disposable, and found I wanted that more the the analogs while it was working. So I'm assuming the transition will be pretty easy for me. TBH, I've been wanting to quit for quite awhile, but with my partner smoking as well, it's just been easier to stick with the status-quo. :D Now I'll be able to feel like I'm smoking, and am hoping that my switch will prompt him to try and switch as well.

Short answer: yes.

Longer answer: probably yes.

Long answer: It should but everyone reacts differently, I have been eating a bit more but my energy levels are through the roof so no weight gain there. Like Mindfield's my transition was instantaneous, had a few cravings here and there but nothing like trying to quit cold turkey. I have read many posts of people cutting down before quitting.

Probably the best advise anyone can give a starting vaper is not to set goals to high, step one would be quitting analogues.. a couple of pounds should they occur can be dealt with quite easily (think of it as holiday weight!)

I dropped them entirely from the get go - kinda. I did run out of juice a day before the replacement juice arrived and had to reach for the analogs. I had 3 that day to stave the nic fits, and they all tasted like utter crapola.

The biggest thing that helped me through this, was first of all I made up my mind to do it. Plain and simple. Second, I stared at my new kit for a couple of days while I finished the remainder of my carton. I new that if they were an option, I might resort to them. Of course I had to run to the store when my juice was gone, so make sure that doesn't happen to you.

It was all down hill after the new juice arrived. I still have the rest of that pack.

One other thing to keep in mind is the nic level you will need. I did not know anything about them when I ordered my kit. The juice that came with was 16mg and was great. My next juice shipment was 6mg. It was ok, but I could definitely tell the difference. I was a pack a day kind of guy. I have heard that people who smoked more generally transition better with higher nic juices, and lighter smokers can get by with lower nic juices. You will have to experiment and see. I'm not sure what is coming with your kit, but if you have nic fits making your transition order some higher nic juice. Nowadays I keep 6mg - 12mg for all day vaping, like when I'm going to be in the office all day. I have 16-18 mg for times when I'm going to be in and out of appointments and need an extra little kick.

Best of luck to you!

Stellar advice from Minefield. You can go at your own pace without the withdrawl symptoms of quitting nicotine like raging, the hungries and worse. You have simply chosen an alternative delivery mechanism for nicotine. Drinking lots of water helps with any side effects from smoking. Your body has a boatload of toxins to clear out from years of cigarettes. The water will help you detox and escort the toxins from your body. Vaping uses a lot of your water supply. Staying hydrated can't be overstated. You've got a world of help here from real people who have walked in your shoes. Hope to see you back here sharing your adventure into vaping. Congrats to you! :)

Fortunately, I'm ahead of the game on staying hydrated. I dropped sugary drinks almost a year ago now, so basically the only thing I drink now is water. Occasionally I'll get some fruit juice, but mostly just water these days. Couple that with the fact that the place I work at has no AC, I end up drinking tons of water. :D

I quit smoking the day I received my first p.v., however, I spend so much time reading the forum, my .... has become noticeably wider, but it has nothing to do with vaping and everything to do with sitting here visiting with you all. So I blame ECF and all its helpful, funny, interesting members. Thanks a lot, people!!!
