So, I should be getting my first kit in the mail either today (hopefully!) or tomorrow for sure. I plan on dropping analogs right from the get go, and I've been curious from my previous attempts at quitting smoking... Will vaping help with the crazy food cravings? Since I'll still be getting the nic, and I'll be replacing the oral fixation, hand to mouth association of smoking with vaping, I'm guessing it won't be as bad as just plain quitting, but thought maybe you guys with more experience could let me know how your process went.
Everybody is different in how E-cigs effect them when dropping cigs, so I can't tell you how it will effect you. What I can tell you is that my own transition was instantaneous. I didn't even make a conscious decision to stop smoking, it just happened. No heightened food cravings or other substitute addictions. Just wonderful vapor.
What I would suggest to you is not to set any goals or deadlines or make any ultimatums to yourself. The great thing about vaping is that it really is a go-at-your-own-pace kind of thing. Vaping is the best substitute to smoking that there is, and it is eminently capable of replacing cigarettes entirely. But it is best done as stress-free as possible so as to make the transition as natural as possible. It may be that you have no problems at all switching right away and not even thinking twice about it. It may be that you have a sensitivity to the MAOIs in cigarettes and may experience some withdrawal symptoms from that which E-cigs can't give, so you may need to transition more slowly. It may be that you're just nervous about leaving the cigs behind and need a slow transition as a kind of security blanket. You may even have a sensitivity or allergy to PG (in which case you need to try VG-based liquids).
All of that is completely fine. Try it out first when it gets there. See how you like it -- the flavour, the throat hit, the vapor production, the overall feel and experience, and then go from there. If you feel the need to have a smoke, have one. If you feel something is missing form your vaping experience, try and figure out what it is. Need more TH? Try a low resistance cartomizer or atomizer, or bump up your nic level. Need more vapour? Try a juice with more VG in it. More flavour? Try a juice with
less VG or extra flavour added (for vendors that offer that). Warmer vapor? LR atty or carto.
There are tons of ways to tailor the experience to your liking, so don't decide right away that you're going to kick the sticks the moment your PV arrives. You might just do that -- but always better to see how the hardware and liquids you ordered work out for you first and see if you need to tweak or entirely change anything first. That way you don't disappoint yourself or feel like you've failed if you feel like you need to go back to tobacco, even partially or temporarily until you work out what works best for you on the E-cig side.
Good luck with it, and I do hope it really does work out for you out of the box. Mine did -- and I didn't even really like the liquid I got too much, but I stuck with it, got better liquid, and really,
really loved it. There's simply nothing better to get you off the ciggies.
