Here is my pin. Looks good to me.

Also what's this crap in the hole. I took the center post out and there is something in there that looks like silicone. I pulled out the grommet and everything that is supposed to be in there out. Can't put my post back in cause this is causing friction.

My guess is the center post of the 510 connector in the drip well slipped with the heat and was not making good contact with the atty. If they atty is not shorting from the center pin making contact with the outer wall there is nothing else in the atty to melt. It's threaded metal to metal contacts for both negative and positive posts.

See if you can get the 510 socket back together if not, it might be taking a trip back to it's birth place.

well put it all back together and the thing still sparks when i push the button down.....replaced with a different spring and also replaced the firing pin from the repair kit i got......so with all brand new pieces inside and new coil at .8 it is still not acting right.....sometimes when i push the button nothing happens and then it will on the next time.....ive switched batteries and everything....

I'm pretty sure its the RM2.....what you guys think

I think you need some Noalox. Period. I don't think it's the atty.....there's very little that can go wrong with the atty. If the posts are screwed in, it's a good coil, and the post screws are tight, there's nothing else that could be wrong with the atty as far as I can tell. Make sure the center post of the atty is flush with or sticking down a tiny (tiny!) bit below the threads.

When you see sparks, that's what's causing your REO to misfire. Since you don't have any Noalox (didn't you get a little ziplock baggie of grey goop with your new REO??) maybe you could try some Vaseline. Or go to Lowe's and get some Oxguard or Noalox (in the electrical section by the multimeters.) The sparks are a dead giveaway that it's your pos. connection giving you the trouble. That's what I think. I could be wrong.......

would anti seize or light bulb grease work until i can get some you think?

Bulb grease would it's basically the same thing if it's a dielectric compound. Either way it may help some. If you bought the Reo new it came with a baggy of noalox

I had pretty much the exact same problem the first time a build a .4Ω coil. (Newbie to the REO) The stock firing pin on the reo doesn't take well to that. It's pointy and there's not enough surface contact for that much current.

The sparking that takes place when its that hot leaves like a hard like welding slag behind. If you could see it under magnification you would see a hard crust. I found that crust was actually even harder than it looks. This was verified by the end solution which was grabbing a new file from a workbench at work and putting some good pressure on it while filing the tip of the firing pin. I found the metal the firing pin is made of some pretty tough stuff. Don't be shy.

Once I got that slag off and put some antioxidant on there it hit like a truck. Since then I never build a coil below .6Ω. keep it above .8Ω and you won't have to do it near as often.

This all is assuming the post's and coil in your RM2 are nice and tight and its making good contact at the base.

I have confidence the veterans in this thread are spot on! :)

I'd be willing to wager 99% of people that say they didn't get it tossed it not knowing what it was :D

more than likely happened to me as well......i remember the card but didn't notice anything in it......although i was excited about my REO

but got it all put together and put some light bulb grease on it........no sparking at the very least so this will work until i get some of the good stuff......i usually keep my build around .55 and never had any issues.....guess that .4 was the breaking point.....LOL.......so back on my .57 ohm coil and vaping like a champ.....

thanks guys for the quick responses......now i need another repair kit for my grand and i don't want to waste shipping on just a repair kit so WOODVIL MAYBE.......LOL

I was freaking out over Thanksgiving weekend. I was out of town and my Grand was acting all wonky. Wouldn't fire right and all that jazz. I tried building a new coil and re-wicking, still not right. When I got home I searched frantically for the bag of noalox from long ago (bought my reo mid 2011) and found it. I filed down the pin a bit and put what little I could on. Works like a champ now. This is the first time I have ever had to do this also. I guess Rob put enough on way back when.

I hate filing the fire pin. I just smear a glob on the positive post of my AW battery before every battery swap.
