Hi. I purchased these months ago but after about a week of use, I found they made my Maraxus uncomfortably hot. So naturally I stopped vaping and pulled the battery out. The battery was hot and I immediately stopped use. Upon further investigation, they appear to be pitting on the bottom.

I was looking through my dresser drawer for something and came across them again. They haven't exploded or vented or anything and out of curiosity, I was wondering if anyone knew if these would still be safe to use? In my Vamos if nothing else? They do still work.

Mods generally don't heat up because a new authentic Sony battery (or any other known good battery) is bad. There are typically two reasons a mod, or a part of a mod, will heat up.

1) You're drawing too much current from the battery, the battery heats up and the whole mod gets hot because it has a hot battery in it. That can be because you have an old or damaged battery. Most often it's because you're simply drawing too many amps from a good battery. It could also be because you have counterfeit batteries and they are not really 30 amp Sony's.

2) Some part of the mod needs to be cleaned. Basically, a contact surface is dirty and has high resistance which creates heat. Typically it's switch parts that do this and the switch gets hot, not the battery. It can also come from the 510 connection, but most often it's the switch.

The pitting on the bottom of the battery is not from a spring, there is no spring touching the battery. Every time you hit the button there is a small spark when the switch post makes contact with the battery. That spark can pit the battery. The lower the atty resistance the more amps are drawn and the more pitting happens. I've found it takes a lot of pitting to affect the performance of a battery. I sometimes use a bit of 1000 grit sandpaper and give the battery a real gentle rub. You can use a small amount of grease like Noalox on the switch pin to help slow this process down.

Wait... let me clear up. It wasn't necessarily only the Maraxus. One heated my Nemesis button up also.
But that "generic" blue Dishy 2200 mAh has been holding up strong. As for my coils...I get the same resistance every time I rebuild, 1.8 ohms - 2.3 ohms weather it be single or dual coil build

I also considered them being knockoffs...but they'd be some amazingly great quality knockoffs...plus I got them from a seller who had been approved/recommended by quite a few happy people from the forums here.

Hm, maybe you do have counterfeit Sonys. 1.8 ohms - 2.3 ohms is not even making VTC's break a sweat. Who did you get them from?

WAAAAAIIIIIT! I just had a thought... maybe it was the charger? My first NiteCore ended up getting dropped down the steps on my way up from underground getting off the trolley so I ordered a new one and picked up a generic little double slotted "smart charger" and maybe that had something to do with these getting ruined?

LOL, I should know to read a thread all the way to the end before posting! Yup, this might negatively affect the charger and thus your batteries

Check your batteries off the charger. They should be 4.2V, +- 0.05. If they are higher than that, that's bad. You should also not be running the batteries down past 3V regularly.

I try not to let them get too low. There's always a way to tell. Suddenly getting weak hereafter hours of vaping. ...time for a new battery. Im so tempted to try these out again...but I need my face to be there when I wake up...

If I believed a battery was bad, I would recycle it. Safety is always my first concern.

Go with your gut feel Kashief. Batteries are cheap. Your health is worth a lot more than a couple of them :thumb:

Let us know how it goes.
