Seriously? Why are you even asking? Employers are not democracies. They set whatever rules and regulations they want as long as they aren't illegal. If they said you can't do it....don't. I'm Sure you probably want a different answer, but I'm Sure you didn't smoke at work, and it's not just you that works there. As a manager in HR, If hr is talking to you about not doing it, two things have happened.
1. MULTIPLE people have complained about your vaping.
2. YOU WILL GET FIRED VERY SOON IF YOU DON'T STOP.
I understand that we think it is harmless, but that doesn't mean it doesn't bother other people. Just because a place doesn't have a "No vaping" sign doesn't mean we can fire it up. That kind of arrogance is what will get it banned everywhere.

No. That kind of attitude is whats going to get us banned everywhere.VAPING IS NOT SMOKING! Stop thinking like a smoker. You arent doing anything wrong and allowing ourselves to be shut away in the same dark smelly corner as smokers is the surest way to ensure that we'll be treated JUST LIKE THEM.

Nothing at all wrong with attempting to educate your HR manager and going through proper channels.

While I agree educating is a great thing, when it comes to work, why bother? I get what zapped is saying, but do you really need to fight that hard to be able to vape literally 24/7? while i fully understand your arguments of it not being smoke, or smelling (well it actually does but its quite good) people connect negative connections when they see the vapor because it looks like smoke. And even as a vapor i even agree there are some places that u shouldnt vape just for politeness.

but everyone has their own opinions and thats just what we are sharing. If you really believe you should be able to vape at work then yes, ask your HR manager "hey i understand there is a no vape policy, but i was wondering if we could sit down and i could show you some information about these that suggests there should be no problem" if she says no, then hey u tried, and worst case just go to the bathroom n vape away! thats what i do :2cool:

just because there isnt a law about not being able to do something does not mean it's ok to do. In some places in the world it's not illegal to have "relations" with animals, that doesnt mean go out and do it because you think it's ok.
vaping doesn't involve only the person who is doing it. if it bugs someone else, be polite and don't do it.

Agree. The right-to-vape fight must be fought, but its not at the workplace ... its with the people that can actually put the legislation in place. Going on the barricades with 'civilians' will only create more disdain, so in this case I would opt for educating, but if it doesn't stick ... go vape with the smokers outside and try to make them see the vapor through all the smoke. They are not bad people after all :p

I for one wouldn't risk my job just to fight for the right to vape in my office. But, the culture and the politics vary widely from workplace to workplace. Some companies have an official path to appeal stuff like this, and at other firms the path is simply "my way or the highway". Realistically, it's up to the OP to size up the situation and make the call.
