I've been vaping for about 5 weeks now, which is also the time I quit analogs. I know sore throats are common after quitting smoking (I once quit for 2 years). But I've been chain vaping for the whole 5 weeks and have been fine (I mostly vape a 70/30 PG/VG blend).

I decided to switch to cartos (before I was dripping exclusively), mainly for convenience and because I learned that dripping and driving are extremely dangerous. I've been on the cartos for 3 days now and I love them. I get much more vapor from them, and a little more throat hit (which I actually like).

But I did notice that my nose was starting to get a little runny, then yesterday my throat hurt a little in the morning, but went away. Today, I'm full blown sick: very sore throat, feel achy. Could this be related to the cartos and the fact that my vape hits are bigger now? Possibly the carto material? Or is it probably just a combo of getting used to vaping and quitting smoking?

It's just weird, because I've been chain vaping this whole time and never had any throat problems

around the month mark i had similar issues-
i think it might just be rehab from all the ciggie chemicals?
hopefully doesn't last very long for you.

The thing with filler material is though(i use cartos)
you do want to look for the warning signs that you might have chain vaped a bit too much and burned the carto
on the inside-
one of my warning signals is the throat and lung hit-and really, you can taste it, most times.

Yeah, I'm assuming it's an adjustment thing. I don't think I have an infection or anything (nothing colorful coming out of my nose or throat). The weird thing is that I really don't even have a cough. My throat just hurts really bad and is raw, and my nose is a little runny.

I did notice a little burning taste at first when they were getting low, so I've been more careful with making sure to top them off more often so they don't dry out.

I'm just gonna take it easy the next few days. I have an appt with the doc today. I'm hoping for a nice and strong, "relaxing" cough syrup :D

What carto type and ohms vs what atomizer ohms?

And are you using the same juice?

I'm not sure on the ohms (still a noob) but I can tell you that I have a pretty simple Sidesho setup. I'm using a standard battery and the cartos from Modern Vapor (which I'm assuming are high quality), and I also use the usb passthrough (mostly for dripping). I'm assuming the ohms for the cartos and attys I've been using are the same.

I'm using some different juices, but nothing too much different from what I was using before. The only new ones are the shipment I got yesterday from BWB of RY4 and Melonbacco. But I was vaping a lot of Applewood before, which is pretty similar to the Melonbacco. Same nicotine level I've been at too (24 in the morning for a boost, and 12mg for the rest of the day)

You need to learn to keep them damp. If you singe them they will get harsher. What ohms are you using on what ecig? You should learn on standard resistance (and slim ecigs should only use standard resistance)

With stuffing cartos I often use a plastic or delrin drip tip as a mouthpiece. I use juices with 20% or less VG to get easy dragging and good wicking longer.

The cartos might be lower ohms than the cart+atty and giving a larger drag.

But it actually sounds like you are some kind of normal sick. And even at 2 weeks you could still be detoxing off some of the 4000 chemicals in cigs (now including carpet glue). Drink plenty of fluids, take some vitamins, eat well, some ibuprofen (Advil) may help you feel better. Get some juice with some VG in it - it will smooth the vape and be easier on your throat. I find cartos work best with 20% or less VG so try 20%. You can try some 30% in them but it may shorten how long you get good performance out of the carto. In the atomizer try some 50/50 - it's very nice and vapory and smoother.

Thanks everyone for your support and suggestions. That's one thing I'm learning about this forum compared to other types of forums--everyone is friendly and supportive! Thanks a ton! I went to the doctor, he checked my throat, asked about my symptoms. I told him I quit smoking and am vaping now (he was happy about that). His medical advice is that it's a virus, which is definitely what it feels like too.

It's interesting though because I think I was unsure about it being a cold, because when you're a smoker and you get a cold, you get that bad hacking cough, (not to be too graphic, but you all know) and you cough up that lovely brown mucus. I have none of that. I have a bit of a sniffly nose and a very sore throat. No lung congestion, barely any cough and no nastiness. I guess I just couldn't tell it was a cold because the symptoms aren't nearly as bad when you're a healthy vaper, as opposed to an unhealthy cigarette smoker. So another yay! for vaping from me. Also, I have some Vicodin for my pain, so I'm feeling pretty nice :D

Thanks again guys. You all rock!!!

When I stopped smoking tobacco cigs, I had flu-like symptoms about a week after stopping. < That was cold turkey, without e cigs.

Yeah, I've done that before too. It was so much worse than this time with the ecigs, but then again, that was after smoking for 11 years.

My smoking history goes like this: I started at 13, smoked for 11 years, quit for 2 years, started again for about 6 months, quit for 6 months, started again for about 6 months, quit for 6 months, then after I started again the last time I smoked for 2 years, and now here I am, five weeks in, and for the very first time in my life after quitting, I don't miss cigarettes at all (every other time I did it cold turkey). It's truly amazing.

I love ecigs so much better. I really think they're the future, unless of course the FDA bans them so the medical establishment can continue to make money off cancer, and so the tobacco industry stops losing profits of course. But that's a whole other topic, haha

Very well could be. I know that I had several symptoms a few weeks ago that would have really developed if I were smoking. Fortunately, minor discomfort for a couple of days and *poof*... Sure is terrific to feel less 'vulnerable'!

Glad your doc supports your new 'habit'.

Yeah, I was pretty surprised. He's pretty conservative when it comes to medications and whatnot. Not that ecigs are a medication, but you get my meaning. Either way, we definitely need as much support from the medical establishment as we can get.
