When i quit i got horrible coughs and a case of cotton mouth you wouldn't believe. I actually thought i had the flu for a bit and went to one of my friends in the ER to get a quick checkup. Come to find out i was perfectly fine, The doc asked me if i had quit smoking. Thats all it was, Soar throat, Dry mouth, and a horrible cough from trying to quit lol. He said that it was common for smokers to feel "sick" after the first couple days and that it should wear off. Its all but gone now after a few weeks.

I had quit times before and i remember feeling the same way (WHICH is why i went back to smoking a few days after quitting)

:evil:I quit smoking regulars 3 days before I started vaping and yes very dry throat and crankey,Now I think I experimented with what a few here has said to try..That is I bought some NOW vg I bought at a health food store and diluted my 25mg ejuice by adding 25% more vg and 5% distilled water.this seems to help some on irratation in throat..

I am going to make it 35% vg but I think I noticed a slight decrease in flavor.. at 25% 35% might lose all flavor..

Quitting smoking is TOUGH and even with the E-Cigarette you go through the basic same withdrawals of quitting. The only thing i found was i didn't get moody. However i literally went to the E-cig store with my LAST cig in hand and bought my starter kit and started vaping then and there. But if i don't get my hit in the mornings its the same old thing.

You WILL most of the time get:

1)Soar throat
2)Dry mouth
3)Increased Saliva (yes the feeling that the spit is pooling around your tongue but your mouth is still dry)
4)You can get a headache
5)Upset stomach
6)Coughing spells
Pretty much you get the same effects of quitting cold turkey. But without the moody attitude which makes it MUCH more bearable.

How did I come up with these? Its simple I called a bunch of friends who I now smoke e-cigs with and wrote down everyones common illnesses for the first couple of days. Also I've quit smoking cold turkey about 4 times every year since i was 18 (BTW it didn't work) So i knew what i was going through when it was going on with me. But it only lasts about a week and then you start feeling better and like I said you don't get the depression and pora$$ attitude that you normally get when you get.

You said it! Exactly! I believe a HUGE part of my success this time is due to the fact that I don't have that pora$$ attitude and I'm not moody!

When I've tried to quit in the past the irritability and intolerance of everyone and everything was awful.

I had the physical symptoms you listed this time and I expected it because it's happened every time I've tried to quit as well, but physical is tolerable and do-able compared to feeling like a mentally unbalanced psycho-b!t(h.

I've never quit before and am now off ciggies for (see banner) and I didn't get any of these symptoms EXCEPT the dry mouth. I always knew I was weird lol

I got my first e-cig kit in Dec 09. For the 1st couple of days I occasionally had an "analog", mostly out of habit and without even thinking. Then I went a week with no analog at all, then had one. PHHHEEEWWW! It was awful. Haven't had one since, and never experienced dry mouth, sore throat, or anything people have described here. For me the transition went very smooth.

I think that even if I didn't smoke, I might even try vaping with menthol and 0% nicotine, knowing what I know now. It's that good.

My favorite e-cig is TotallyWicked Screwdriver III, mix my own juice (3ml 54mg Platinum Ice, 3ml vegetable glycerin, 3ml propylene glycol, and 25 drops menthol concentrate), and most recently, started replenishing the cartridge filler with tea bag paper.

One annoying thing... It's not convenient to vape in bed. I noticed that taking a puff while lying down causes the liquid to run through the air tube and into your mouth! Maybe I'm over-filling but it doesn't do that when I'm vertical.

I'm rambling. Over & out.

I too got the sore throat this weekend, pretty bad as well, I was vaping both PG, and VG, which could be my mistake. I only smoked about 2-3 cigs a day, but dipped (chewed) quite a bit, but haven't done either for 10 days, and my sore throat just started yesterday. However, I have been sucking on my 510 like it's a crack pipe, lol, and also am "over doing" it for sure. I think a little less vaping, more fluids, and we will all be fine. As the others have said, we are "chasing" that elusive buzz that we got from ciggy's, which we will never get again, and it just takes time, and practice to realize it.

P.S. My wife calls me the "VAPANATOR"

The sore throat / scratchy feeling was something I noticed as soon as I started vaping and I may be jumping the gun, but for me, the discomfort is temporary, and directly related to how I actually inhale the vapour.

If I inhale directly on my e-cig (Joye 510) it hits the back of my throat and causes the scratchy feeling, with both PG and VG juice.

If I use my mouth to draw the vapour in and then inhale, I don't get the discomfort and the experience becomes more or less enjoyable. I'm not sure why this is exactly, but I guess a hypothesis would be that the vapour is cooler when held in the mouth first and then inhaled.

I was wondering if anyone elses discomfort had been lessened through modifying the way they use their e-cig like I have.

I do the EXACT same thing. I have been experimenting how I inhale my vape, and I do find that if I inhale it directly, it will really burn my throat. But, if I draw a couple of drags into my mouth, say 2-3, and then inhale it, I don't get a sore throat and I get a decent enough throat hit for me.

I think everyone just has to find what works for them, but it is nothing like smoking an analog....
