Hey guys, i've received my fantasia rechargeable e-cig and my e-juices 2 days ago and I've vaped for about 0,6 ml of my tank in total yet. But I don't think i'll vape today since I have a ....ty sore throat, which is caused by my vaping. I know it's not related to any cold or flu since I get flus & colds like 8 or 9 times a year, so I REALLY know what the symptoms are, an a persistent 2 days sore-throat is not included in those. In addition to that sore-throat, I can't talk (I can but it's an inhuman effort and it's kinda nasty).:cry:

So I would like to know if any of you ever had the same symptoms after vaping for like 2 days?

**Additional Informations:
- I don't have a cold, a flu or any crap like that
- I don't have a laryngitis or a pharyngitis since my throat is clear & i'm not feverish. :)
- They don't say on the box what's the e-juice's ratio, they only say ''USA Made liquid, Premium VG/PG Ratio''. :2cool:
- I don't drink too much water, but I did start when the sore-throat appeared.

Thank you very much for your upcoming answers!

Im assuming you just started vaping.... most people who have reactions find that the nic was too high for them or the PG was too high.... also, if you are new to vaping, the transition to vaping is a new condition your throat is getting used to... are you a smoker? reducing your smoking also results in changes to the throat as it is trying to heal.

Hey there, firstly thank you for answering.
Actually the juice is nicotine free, tar free and etc..
I'm not a smoker, I once smoked like 1 or 2 cigarettes in partys like every month but nothing much. :p

Hi Blackwolves and welcome to the forum!

There can be many reasons for throat irritation when vaping:

  • Your body getting used to vaping.
Vapor isn't like smoke. It has larger particles than smoke, and it could be your body getting used to the new sensation.
  • Getting dehydrated.
Vaping actually draws water from your body to produce the vapor. It's therefore important to take in plenty of liquids while vaping. Some folks do water, some fruit juices, and some even put just a bit of apple cider vinegar into a glass of water. I do this myself sometimes - sounds yucky, but it actually helps your body to absorb the water, and if you use just a little bit of the vinegar, it's not bad.
  • The flavor of the juice.
Flavors like cinnamon or menthol are natural irritants. That's why they work so well as an over-the-counter congestion relief remedy. Trying a milder flavor might help. (although cinnamon IS really tasty LOL!).
  • The nicotine content of the juice.
Higher nicotine content causes a harsher vape (some call it "throat hit"). Try a couple of different juices with varying nicotine concentrations. It's a balancing act between getting enough nicotine to satisfy your cravings and not getting too much throat irritation.
  • The PG to VG ratio of the juice.
The more PG, the more "throat hit" (and more flavor). The more VG in the mix, the less "throat hit", but less flavor, too. Again, play around with juices of different ratios.
  • Your vaping style.
If you take short, hard draws, one right after the other, this can cause the coil to get quite hot and you'll get a harsher vape because of the heat. Try taking gentler, longer draws and see if that makes a difference.
  • The power setting of your device.
Start with a low power setting, take a draw or two, then step the power up a bit. When you reach the point where the vape is harsh or the flavor starts to go away, back the power down a notch. Each different juice will have its own "sweet spot" regarding power.
  • The heat of the coil.
I know when I first started vaping, I was doing it like smoking. Taking short, quick draws, one right after the other. This gets the coil very hot, cooks the juice and can get quite harsh.
  • Dry hits.
This is when the wicking material can't keep up with how you are vaping. The coil gets dry and you get a nasty burnt taste. Give the wicking a few seconds between draws so that they can keep the coils wet.
Hope this helps and wasn't overwhelming.

Happy Vaping!

Wow, thanks a lot for all of this, i'll reply to best of my knowledge to each of these statements:
1- It's really possible, since i've started vaping 2 days ago.
2- This again is really possible since i wasn't drinking while vaping, i've drank a lot of water this morning tho and it helped a little.
3- I'll try a milder flavor like you said, i was using BLUEBERRY since I began.
4- Thanks for the information although there was 0mg in the juice, it will help me for the next juices.
5- There is PG in the juice mix, but there is almost no throat hit, so I came to the conclusion that it was very low in PG et kinda high in VG.
6- My behaviour are same (Smoking/Vaping) when I was smoking I used to take long draws even if it hurted my tongue much, i do the same thing while vaping.
7- There is no power settings on my Fantasia E-Cig.
8- As you said, I don't think my coil became hot since i'm making long and kinda distant draws.
9- I've not noticed any burning taste.

So I guess the reasons of my sore-throat are 1 and 2. Now that i'm informed it will allow me to not do the same errors again :)

It sounds like a few different things. Since you're not a smoker, you'll need to adjust to vaping and it might irritate a bit until your throat gets used to it. Definitely drink more water as I find myself needing to drink more and more (something I've been needing to work on). And last, I would definitely get some max VG or high VG juice to see if you notice a different. My last bit of advice is if you plan on getting some ejuice with nicotine in it, start VERY low. Since you're not a smoker, you won't know the amount of nicotine you'll like. The higher in nicotine the more throat hit you'll get, on top of the nicotine rush obviously, if you're going to just start slow with small bottles until you find what you like.

Hey friend,

It sounds like from your other posts that you're having a lot of issues with vaping. You said you vape with no nicotine so I don't think it's the desire for nicotine that's got you vaping. So, just a question for you... If you seem to keep having problems with it, why do you continue to do it?

You also mentioned here that you used to smoke, but then in this thread you said you aren't a smoker. Even a casual smoker "like 1 or 2 cigarettes in partys like every month" is still a smoker. But, like I said, if you're not interested in nicotine, and not replacing a smoking habit, and having trouble with lightheadedness, and sore throats, why do you persist?

Just curious...

To make a few things clear -

Both pg and vg are humectants. That means they grab water molecules. They will decrease your hydration, and especially in the throat and wet tissues of the sinuses and lungs. This could be a contributing factor - counter with lots of water.

Yes, it is entirely possible you could actually be sick. I know you said you get colds and flues a lot. If that's true then you KNOW that symptons can vary from one to the next, and yes, sore throat is among the available options.

Also, it could be a bacterial infection. There are several strains of streptococcus, only one of which is responsible for the condition typically called "Strept throat". Other strains could hit you in the pharynx, larynx, uvula, etc, leaving your tonsils alone. There are other bacterial and/ or viral offenders that can do similar things. None of these present with a fever in all instances, meaning you could be sick, but with no other symptoms than what you've described.

Finally, some people are very sensitive to, or even allergic to PG. Even with no nicotine, some people have a bad reaction to PG in their vape. This can cause the symptoms you describe.

I would do the following, in this order.

1: Go see my doctor. Give a full and honest account of my symptoms, but leave my "medical expertise" at the door, and let him figure out the cause.

2: Hydrate fairly aggressively. Probably not a bad idea to start that while pursuing item 1 above.

3: Get some 100% VG juice to switch to for a couple of days, to see if that helps.

Just so you know, throat hit depends on both nicotine level and PG. A no nic juice will still retain a bit of throat hit, but it really depends on nic. It could be a high PG level that you are using, but without the nicotine, it doesn't feel like it.

Just my 2 cents.

Vaping gave me a sore throat at first, but it went away after about a week. My vaping friends have said the same thing happened to them. Sometimes your body just needs to adjust to the moisture that gets pulled out. It chaps my lips also. Drink more water.
Also, I get a horrible sore throat if I don't let juices that contain ethyl alcohol sit with their lids off for a few days. With one of my favorite flavors, I have to remove the bottle lids permanently. It needs constant airing out.
I should also add that it won't usually say on the label if it contains ethyl alcohol. It's just part of the flavor sometimes. It's used during the extraction process. I think it may also be used during the extraction process with nicotine from tobacco leaves, too.
