what do you do when its always a choice between 2 megalomaniacs, psychopaths and sociopaths
I worked in downtown manhattan by the west side for over 15 years, it's not even the ny'ers. it's bloomberg, most of us find him to be the embodiment of the nanny state. He saved up all his unpopular issues for his last term and he's just tryin to bum rush legislation in under the wire.
I can't believe he finagled his third term, if you don't know about this google it, you'll see exactly what i'm talking about.
What category does "the Wiener" fall into? I swear, if he gets elected I'm moving to Mars.
I'm surprised he's still alive. Didn't the Shriver's put a hit out on him?

You have a point there.
We (the public) need to demand that all of the $$$ be taken out of the equation. (there are many ways to do this but we must have the will en masse to do it)
We can't get quality regular people who would do good to run because they do not have the money. The campaign contribution thing has gotten way out of hand.
We need to accept that people are human and will make mistakes and not to expect our candidates to be perfect people. The folks who are in office now (as well as in the past) probably get (and got) away with much worse than a petty offense, extramarital relationships, etc. but they have the money to cover it up and keep things off the radar. It doesn't mean that bad stuff doesn't happen to them or because of them - it just appears that way.
We need to vote out Members of Congress AND State Legislatures EN MASSE. Ony then will real change come.
We need to protect our "regular folk" candidates from the smear campaigns that are sure to follow, because after all, megalomaniacs/psychopaths/sociopaths are like spoiled children..tantrums will be thrown.
It is the only way to effectively fix this situation.
Have you ever seen the the House of Lords in the UK?
Those guys are sitting on what looks like long banks of benches, not comfy chairs with all the amenities.
There are times i have watched the HOL and some of those folks look downright uncomfortable.
That goes a long way towards people not BS - ing around when it comes to discussing /deciding on issues.
That wouldn't be the only goody that I (if i could) would divest the Halls of Congress and the State Legislatures of.
Not to mention in this country a big part of politics is the house and senate.

Seriously if it were up to me they would not have cushy offices, they would have cubicles. The office space that was left could be put to better use.
There would not be all of the secretaries and pages..the Congressman/Senators/Mayors would have to do the majority of that work themselves and it would leave less time for partying, campaigning and messing around.
They would be SO BUSY they literally would not have time to BREATHE.

Yes, there will always be the bad apples that will try to spoil the bunch...the aim is to have as few of those bad apples as absolutely possible

Didn't you guys get the MEMO? NYC is a testing grounds for the future police state implementations that are being reviewed and tested for the rest of the country.
We CAN'T let the terrorists win. Every "freedom" we have is a potential "loophole" for a terrorist to attack. The ONLY way to make America safe is to plug all the "holes" i.e. our freedoms up. THEN we will be completely safe from the big bad boogeyman....and Corporate America (Captain America!) will protect us all!

Police departments aren't the only ones. I've heard part of the reason for ammunition shortage recently was the arming of the IRS.
Lets not forget the EPA and the department of Education has a SWAT team its just truly amazing!
I have not heard that about Dept. of Edu. I does not surprise me at all. I'm a bit of a history buff (but not an expert) and nothing good has ever come from high levels of national law enforcement personnel and firepower. Hmm, the last time I can think of a world power did that?
I live in NYC and I can't believe half of the things that are going on here but it seems that most citizens here just like to get .....without the vaseline. They don't get together and fight for their rights anymore....that ..... Bloomberg should have been out of office long ago but once again no one did ......about it.
The thing is, MOST of the major protesting and activism is done by TWO main groups throughout U.S. history. College students/youths, and the people who are being affected the most by whatever it is they are fighting for/protesting against.
There is something called the boiling frog syndrome. A frog doesn't realize it is in boiling water, because the water slowly heats up over time. The frog never jumps out of the water, even though the lid can be off, and he is easily capable of doing so. He doesn't jump because the heating of the water is gradual, and therefore he doesn't comprehend it to be threatening.
Likewise, our liberty, freedom, rights, and just about everything else we cherish as Americans have been GRADUALLY taken from us. It is not by accident, by rather by design. The very fact that Americans today are so compliant shows that the design was well thought out.
We as Americans are not much different than the frogs in the boiling pot. And believe me, the pot IS boiling right now. However, as long as people have a million concerns to take care of, such as living expenses, raising children, working, etc - and they have their BASIC needs met (shelter, food, water), then many people simply will not revolt or fight against the current.
Take the uprisings in the middle east for example. They grew with such velocity that recently several countries in the middle east have been turned upside down, by the people, and the leaders have been ejected. The reason it was successful there, and not here in the USA (like how Occupy Wallstreet failed) is because in the middle east there was no where else for them to go. Their basic needs weren't being met.
Here in the US....we still have our bread and circus, as they called it in Rome. We have our internet and TV....we have our fast food.....and as long as MOST Americans can still afford both, to SOME degree.....you won't see the people prepared to truly fight for what really belongs to us.
