Thing is sometimes, when something just works its hard to find a real advancement. I use the household loudspeaker as an example. No matter how they try to redesign it the standard coil moving a cone still stands as the standard.

There was someone here about 2.5-3 years ago trying to see if there was interest in them.
Now that we are in high wattage it may be viable.
I think it likely (if it isn't already out there) that we'll see small machines that we just need to input the desired Ohm's and the guage of the kanthal that is loaded up and it will spin up the perfect coil in what ever configuration we might want, be it traditional or some exotic Lord of the Rings Blue Dragon Claptonian coil. You will be able to add new coil designs to it by just downloading the new coil design off the net.
