Figured it's easier to show it than to try and explain.

Discoloration of the coil from heating can be disregarded. As long as it glows red evenly when pre-firing you're good.

But I guess it was already answered, thank you

You want a really ridiculous kick your .... PITA of a build try a bellus. Best vape of its day, but boy howdy it was a pain. Still got one. I don’t vape it though. It’s just too annoying. Holds a ton of juice for a 22mm rta though and it looks great. It’s all about what you want.
What a great AF on the Bellus. I took it out recently meaning to build it again. And please don't mention the Aromamizer Plus....I still haven't located mine. It's lost in the house down a rabbit hole somewhere.

Best advice I got on that one was flatten the wick ends out into a fan, fit the atty top onto it with the wick sticking out and then cut it right exactly on the indentation line the atomizer top made with a pair of small sharp scissors. Not even a millimeter of slop one way or the other or it will leak. To make it more fun the fan may need to be thinned a bit by plucking. Still no breaks though. You’ve got to thin it before you make the fan, I.e blind. Huge pain.

Am I just horrible at building on the Zeus?
You have posted in the new members forum, you are limited to the number of post in this forum.

In the future, you might want to post in the ECF forum most closely representing your question. Your subject: Geekvape Zeus RTA, suggest posting in :
Geekvape
Or
Rebuildable Atomizer Systems
You may receive more knowledgeable/germane information from the membership in the above forums.

I found the Zeus dual to be an easy build. I don’t remember having any trouble with it. But then, I’m a higher ohms, lower watts vaper. Maybe it’s not great over40-45 watts. Or maybe nothing seems all that tricky after using those Uwell Fanciers for a few months. Nice atty, but demands perfection lol

Wow, that's dedication! If I revisit soon I'll see what I come up with. I don't remember fanning but whatever works is what I say.

I didn't mean the wick turns black, I meant the coil itself. On both ends of the wraps there's a single straight lines that turns black as I'm pre-firing it to get rid of the hot spots and it never goes away(SS coils).

So that would be the wire continuing the coil onto it's termination? Not a Stainless user, but seems like I've read it's best not to dryburn.

Using TC on dual coil clapton wire 316L

Then again, the opposite

SS coil longevity

So likely discoloration from uneven heating, and probably nothing to worry about. Or, if you do, just wind a new one.

Hi,

I've been vaping on and off for a few years, went through about 5 mods and a dozen+ tanks of every kind until I finally landed on RTAs and started building as well.
I bought a Zeus dual coil a while back, although it's a really finicky one to build on I got better, but the experience didn't. I tried many many different coils of every size, A1 and SS with claptons, fused and twisted/cottons/builds and e-liquids, single coil builds and dual.
First culprit I thought was obviously the nicotine %, so I lowered that and still - harsh hits mostly. My best experience was with a 80/20 3% mix from BLVK, it was almost smooth but still not there.

Recently I bought another RTA(Won't name it so this doesn't look like a shameless plug), single coil with bottom airflow and it was instantly great with the exact same coils/cotton/juice(most of my e-liquids are 70/30 3%). Throat hit, flavor, and satisfaction from the hits were all better.

Am I just horrible at building on the Zeus?
The Zeus is a .... to build on, I struggled for months but keep in mind you will never get the intense nic and flavour in a single coil as with the dual setup. It helps watching the pros build on YouTube I learnt from vaping with Vic and Jay Haze!

The bellus was what got me watching build videos. I could NOT make that thing work right. The fan thing I got off of one. It does work. Super touchy even then though.

Hello Robbin12, sounds as though your wicking may be the culprit. And with 2 coils, it's double the trouble.

If you want to feel a little bit better, I'm trying to suss the build on a Geekvape Ammit 25 (single coil). Too much wicking, dry hits and no vapour. Too little then it dumps the tank and wets itself.

You'll get it though, eventually.
Yep, struggled for a year to get my Ammit 25 to stop leaking trick is in the wicking but even do, it will leak because it's a factory machining defect. I even tightened the deck to the base, still leaks a bit

Hello Delon, I've managed to sort the leaking with the Ammit 25. Just keep on getting airlocked, then flavour and vapour go somewhere far, far away.

But 6 wraps of 27 (0.34mm) SS316L with a 3mm ID in TCR when it's wicking is quite nice indeed, but I'm banging my head against a brick wall trying to learn how it likes to be wicked. I'm going through Muji and KGD like no tomorrow.

Dammit, Ammit!

Yep that's the pharaoh, didn't have my zeus with a build on it to take a picture of the lines
have any pic, i have been lurking this post and found nothing... and yes, SS coils are different mostly then 2nd use, i mean o 1st use, you dry fire and they look awesome, then on re-wicks and so, you dry fire and they lost so much of their awesome glow finish, i use to wash'em and they dry-fire, wash with just water...

Regards,

Yes, I've read just about any forum post and watched many competent reviewers(fav one being Vaping With Vic), tried them all.

Thanks for this, I read that 10 minutes after I did this exact thing today as my previous build was too high and it leaked the whole tank out twice. As for the wicking it seems my "wick harder" approach did the opposite so I also thinned and fluffed, put in about 70% into the channel and cut off the rest - so far so good.

Hot spots could be one thing, how efficient it is could be another. There are many things that can cause harshness. I use semi restricted airflow, which produces denser flavors than a typical direct lung atomizer. I have friends that use my atomizer and they use a Smok, and mine gets them coughing every time... it has a smaller chamber with less airflow which produces a denser, more potent vapor, albeit at much less volume.

Of course, it could be a typical build issue, hot spots, dry hits, etc.... but others seem to be going over those issues. I just figured I'd give this as an option.
