It sounded like a threat to me too. If it wasn't meant as such, this is a big part of the problem

We cleared that up, long ago.

That's one of the problems with text based communication. You can't hear tone, you can't see expression...When things are already tense it's easy to assume the worst.

PROTIP : I have neither the time nor the inclination to issue veiled threats to anyone. Doing so is pointless.

If I'm going to issue a warning to an individual, I'll do it very directly.

See the problem is, with other mods its not the same, you guys and gals all have different ways of doing things. If we've seen one mod do one thing, we automatically think you're all running by the same "rules" - its obviously different, but for folks with perhaps a "history" of run-ins, they would see it as an absolute threat no doubt about it.

Welcome to our newest member, RandomB

It can be an intimidating place to post, but it's fun as hell to lurk. General asshattery isn't just accepted, it's almost encouraged. People get banned all the time for whatever random reasons and no one ever throws a fit. It's normal... break the rules, do the time, get back to business when your ban is up.

I've only been around here for about a month, but my general impression is that a lot of people are overly sensitive and overly suspicious, and to throw in my support, SJ and Terra are right. The way to deal with a potentially abusive moderator isn't to make a million threads decrying the abuse. You take it to the people who can actually deal with it. Just my .02$

Maybe some of our more inflammitory members can get a thread started over at OT so they can be as brutal to each other as they want. (I'm not at all trying to divert membership away from these forums, just suggesting a supplement, if you will). For me, I'll be sticking around here and continue to absorb all the information (and nic juice) that I can.

I joined that other forum out of curiosity and have sent a question in as to the number of mods on that forum. Also you have to go an induciton area to post a thread and be stuck there for a while before being allowed on other parts o fthe site.

Right off the bat the first sticky thread is copied verbatim below> While the expletives are deleted here. It was not on that forum.

HEY. NEW F***ERS. READ THIS OR I'LL KICK YOUR KITTEN.
Ok. In addition to the other stickies, here are some guidelines for posting in here. I know you're new, so I'll use small words and short sentences.

1) ONLY POST ONE INTRODUCTORY THREAD.

There is enough traffic here that I (and the other mods who watch over this forum) don't need to be sifting through multiple threads from you. If you don't see your thread right away, we need to approve it first. So calm the **** down and wait a bit. One of us will be along shortly to deal with it.

2) DON'T POST A LINK TO ANYTHING.

If I see a link, I'm deleting the thread. Don't spam your site here, don't tell me about some badass youtube clip you found. If there is a link, the thread is GONE. If you want to spam your site and draw people to it, do it on some other site or buy a service membership here. If you want to talk about Youtube clips, do it once you are approved. Spam your s**t here, and the thread will be locked. Do it again, or once you get through initiation, and you will find yourself banned.

3) ENOUGH WITH THE "HI." THREADS. MAKE YOUR INTRO THREAD SOMEWHAT INTERESTING.

If we are going to let you in, we need to know a bit about you. "Hi." or "Hello." Doesn't do ****. This is a discussion board. Try and start a discussion.

4) SUPPORT THE SITE.

Buy a sub and bypass all of this initiation stuff. Off Topic is a great site. Subs are cheap. So skip that #1 w/ a Coke you were going to have, get a salad from the value menu instead, and buy a subscription.

WOW! I'm too new here to know exactly what's going on, but since I was mentioned directly in one post, I feel that I should add my two cents.

I do believe that mods are necessary, but they should be monitored also. Just makes sense. I do not see why a thread would be deleted - better to censor anything offensive, and close.

That said, it is, after all, SJ's site, and he sets the rules. If we don't like them, we have other options.

From my browsing, it would seem that this was an isolated incident, so it should be treated that way at this point. Should the problem persist, then more discussion may be warranted.

This is an e-cig forum, so most of my concerns will be the quality of e-sig posts (except for one short sidestep to the religious thread). As such, my biggest concern right now is finding help for the four 901 atomizers that I received that vape poorly. But maybe I am just shallow and self-centered. :)

ahhh...lol

That's actually Japanese for "super moderator"
Come on, tell the truth, It was not super moderator, it said super great good guy who is just misunderstood sometimes.

I don't think you are at all scary, you are just a big cuddly wuddly teddy bear big guy.:w00t:

No hard feelings, the water has run under the bridge as far as I am concerned.

DW

Dumwaldos 7 day ban should be up tomorrow night. How long you think it will take him to get rebanned. With Spikey banned I give him an hour.

Sorry but I am going to be a big disappointment on this one. I am VERY upset about the situation with Spikey. Upset enough that I will do whatever it takes to stay on the forum and make sure the club is handled in the manner she wants. Even if it means I have to eat a little humble pie.

SUPAMODERETA this is no longer an open forum
The irony in this post is just crazy. I have been e-mailng SJ all week to complain about your avatar and behind the scene and without you knowing he has been defending you. Just thought you should know. :(

In the words of eddie murphy's immortal 'fart game' skit...

'you got me, my mouth was open and everything.'

Truthfully, I haven't seen any of your posts as a mod, loved your videos tho, so please don't take this personally. The bullying threads I saw were by another, but your choice of words in this thread were a good example of what people are upset about. As mods, you inherit the responsibilty to word your text based communications even more carefully than those you warn. It's as important to the forum as upholding the rules. Censor yourselves more than you ask others too. You have the intelligence to use words that that do convey tone and expression. Write those, and let other mods know when they could use a re-write. It will go a long way to making things better. :)

Hello all,

I have not spoken with spikey as of "the ban". I saw her yesterday morning because we had a meeting with the honorable legislator Browning here in Long Island. I have an idea of what happened, but Is this banning necessary? She is leading our cause locally and quite an influence here on the forum. There are bigger things happening here than this forum. In my other thread about the Long Island ban of the electronic cigarette's I have asked for some explanation sent to me in a PM and have not received one, so I am still a little out of the loop...
What I do know is that this forum is a platform for people to connect and it is sad to see how disconnected we have become. Yes there seems to be a lot of bickering going on, yes there seems to be some kind of power struggle happening, but does a ban need to be a full ban? Is there such a thing as a soft ban? to allow people to access certain area's? I mean, s^%t is going down in the "real world" and we do need to get a message out and gather support for our cause. My interests in ecigs are not as a supplier, my interests are in keeping the ecig alive as a user. I have seen so much taken away in my life because of big tobacco and we really do need to unite. I don't only do this for myself but for future generations, my children, your children and our children's children (and thats a lot of children...). I imagine that all of us have been affected by tobacco or we would not be on this forum.
I really wish we can all put aside the little things that happen here and combine our energy into a positive and get our tushie's into gear and fight the battle we are in together...Let's just get this thing on already and get it over with. There are lives to be saved and futures to be altered. Our path on this planet (Earth) are not pre determined and we can change the future, but this bickering and nonsense is exactly what those in power expect and rely on... It is our weakness, our flaw, and our ultimate doom as a civilization. We are being manipulated and controlled, by the media, the "illuminati" and the people in power and we are falling right into their trap.
We are all adults here and we need to work out whatever silly little problems we may have. THERE IS A BIGGER CAUSE, AND A MUCH BIGGER THREAT TO US ALL.
So the ultimate logical conclusion is for everyone to get their S%^t together and lets proceed with a right and just cause!!!

I am done with my rant....

Peace and Love to all,
for the sake of humanity....

Excellent post eplanet. Its people like you, Spikey and many others that are actually doing something for this cause, not just talking. I came to this forum to be educated, informed and hopefully helpful in some way. It seems as though things are getting sidetracked and thats to be expected when people are passionate, outspoken and fighters, but thats the kind of people we need. Sure sometimes things may get a little rough and at times may have to be reigned in a bit but when you push a fighter of course they will fight back. I understand there are rules and guidelines but too many rules and guidelines can become oppressive..it becomes us against them..isnt that what our original fight was supposed to be about? Except now it is us against "them" which have become the moderators and the rules they have to enforce. I thought "them" were all the fools that want to ban the e-cig. People need to be moderated, sometimes moderators may need to be moderated (no offense, not referring to anyone in particular, life in general). But people do get carried away on both side of the fence and lose their focus. We are losing valuable people. Something is very wrong. Maybe things need to be aired out uncensored, one time deal..complaints and reasons for some actions from both sides. Just the sound of "both sides" is division amongst the ranks..terrible but not unexpected. But we are supposed to be "one" a strong force against the real "enemies". Members, moderators we need to unite again. There is a power struggle as eplanet stated that is becoming just a waste of energy. How can we expect to win our fight if we just keep wasting time fighting each other. Put aside feelings for the greater good. There are so many intelligent, resourceful people in this forum..we cant afford to lose anymore. Spikey and all the others that left, please reconsider. "United we stand, divided we fall"....
