I think one of the things people were upset about was that in Spikey's first thread a mod (i think it was epipeman) came in and said the thread would stay open as long as it stayed civil. I missed the last couple of posts in that thread, but up until that point there was nothing overly inflammatory imo. But I tried to look again and bam it was gone and a new thread was started that got ugly fast.

It did stay open for as long as it was civil.

I've read the entire thread and it went something like this;

Spikey's first post.

Debate over rules / thread deletions / bans

Support for Spikey

Support for the mods

Calm banter

(meanwhile, other threads are being made)

Spikey = banned

Everyone of these threads is the same."Why can't we voice our opinions and move on."
This is like the 30th thread about it so no one is moving on. It would get very old to spend every day moderating these threads instead of discussing our pv's(remember what this forum is about) and our real enemies.

I cried a little...inside...when I read this.

Little emotional tears of joy because, finally, someone gets it.

Like I said I did miss the end of the thread and I don't doubt that it got ugly.

closing threads i understand to a point. Deleting them to prevent people ( especially those involved ) forming an opinion is wrong..imo.

closing is moderation , deletion is censorship

Threads will remain un-deleted as long as the content of those threads is not overly disruptive, inflammatory or in major violation of the rules.

The threads that have been deleted contained all of the above.

Also, you (and everyone else) agreed to being censored, when necessary, when you agreed to the TOU's and forum rules.

Again, you've been around enough forums to know this stuff, ApO...

Devil's advocate doesn't suit you.

I'm just trying to understand it all , It's gone from one extreme to another virtually overnight...it's like being Married

but cheaper

You calling me cheap?

Because I am, you know...REALLY cheap...Hell, I'm even free, most of the time...as long as she's cute...And isn't into like...pain and stuff...

But I'm NOT easy!

I know that a lot of people have trouble understanding how things have changed and why, in some cases, moderation is so quick to occur. There's a lot of stuff that goes on behind the scenes that most people can't see and that, honestly, we can't really explain because it would violate people's privacy.

You ever see the movie "Lean On Me" with Morgan Freeman?

It's a good movie...If you haven't seen it, you should check it out.

So why don't YOU move on instead of posting to these silly threads?
I'M HERE FOR THE CAGE MATCH.........

If you don't like the way your treated everytime you walk into an establishment. Wouldn't you simply leave? Why on earth would you keep going back? As an adult I know where the door is and I have no problem using it.

yes I have been around a bit . hehe. but this forums the only one i have been reasonably active on from the start.
Why ? because the forum was how it was..seems lately it's got just like "any other forum"
the openess of this forum was what kept me interested..

yes , but if you've been a regular patron for some time at that establishment and you enjoyed frequenting it , I'd find it a little tougher than to just turn your back and leave

Look, the simple fact is that threads are only deleted because we want to maintain some civility on the forum.

We have a set of very carefully created rules that have been developed since the forum was begun 18 months ago as a collaborative effort between members, suppliers and myself.

It's a tricky juggling act, trying to satisfy everyone's wishes, but one that I think we get largely right.

The main issue, as far as I can see, is that having more moderators and enforcing the rules more strictly makes some people (particularly the longer-standing members) upset. I understand this, but it's my responsibility that I look out for the moderators as much as I do everyone else, and so I have instructed them to close posts that directly criticise their actions.

Additionally, the rules are not set in stone and, as many, many members know, I often change them when good suggestions are made.

So, if you have a problem (or a suggestion), please, please get in touch with me. I will always look at issues and address them.

Many thanks,

SmokeyJoe
