Well this horse has been beat so much, the maggots have moved in. Terra, you've already said things are not like they were in the beginning and won't be again. So I'm afraid you'll lose your bet. :)

People have a choice in where they hang out. Some people are choosing to leave and this is unfortunate for the new people and for the ECF. We all know where the door is. We can use it or not.
Ouch!! Hope he gets back here soon with that X-Box game!!!:)The Wiz!

Anyone with the time and inclination certainly could start their own forum. Perhaps if they were good at it, it would grow to the size this one has(still relatively small compared to many forums out there).

And then some day, it might even reach a membership of 10,000 or so (with half of those being "active" members). At that point they could then administer the forum in the ideal manner that they visualize. And I am sure that with 10,000 members they could absolutely satisfy every member and there would be agreement with every decision. Of course, with no moderation at all (or even very limited) people would join and quickly leave because no one really enjoys the "wild west" atmosphere except those bullies that want to keep membership low in the first place so it enhances their position as a big fish in a little pond.

SO if insulting someone on purpose gets you 24 hours banning then shouldn't you, EVEN BEING A mod, be banned for purposely insulting someone??

If you are true to your word that nobody is above the rules then you will voluntarily allow yourself to be banned for 24 hours.

It's only right!!

Love you Chong man!!!:D

yep modding is a thankless task no doubt but If I joined in the past 3 months It probably wouldn't bother me as much, I also wouldn't have hung around so much either. Like SJ says it's mostly us old timers ( with no lives ) that know what it was like before the member boom off 2009...ahh , those where the days :D

LOL, true I only started 3 months ago and may not know what it was like before the member boom of 2009 since I unfortunately only became aware of vaporizers this year, but that also means I have had the opportunity to try and learn from the early adopters on the forum and for that I am grateful.

Its an electronic cigarette! Shall we talk about them? Perhaps we can start a subforum about them! Watch out for infinite loops though!

sorry wing , I didn't mean it to sound anti-new user.. just my thoughts would be different if say i joined today.

new regime users will overtake old regime users soon enough so all this is probably irrelavant anyway.

people would join and quickly leave because no one really enjoys the "wild west" atmosphere except those bullies that want to keep membership low in the first place so it enhances their position as a big fish in a little pond.

Apo - yes, you can click on the "contact us" button and go through to the email form. This goes through to my admin email which I check regularly.
Thanks SJ, I'm guessing people don't use that method because maybe they think a Moderator will recieve it , and if your complainee is a mod , well you know..
thanks tho..

I can understand moderation. But strong arm tactics are not the way to go. For me personally I am afraid to ask a simple question for fear it will be taken as "bashing or questioning mods" and a ban will be issued. Moderation should not make people afraid to ask questions.

This is, in my opinion, overly dramatic. There's a big difference between asking a question and antagonizing. This thread is a PERFECT example of that. Lots of questions have been asked, almost all of them have been answered, the thread is still open and nobody has been banned...or given an infraction (or even sent a warning PM, to the best of my knowledge).

SO if insulting someone on purpose gets you 24 hours banning then shouldn't you, EVEN BEING A MOD, be banned for purposely insulting someone??

Krispy treats. Break them out. STAT!

I am completely and totally distracted from this thread by the mention of coffee and beatings. Throw in some choc/raspberry juice and I'm done for.

But seriously - all forums go through growing pains. This forum has grown exponentially just in the short time that *I* have been here. Does it suck that some of the oldest, most vocal posters have left or been banned? It certainly does. Are other people going to get ...... and leave? Probably and I'm sure that some babies will be thrown out with the bathwater and that sucks too. But it doesn't change the fact that there are still some amazing, wonderful and outspoken people here that seem like they plan to stick around. And perhaps when things cool down some, our "favorites" will find their way back here.

I hope so anyway.

The 'wild west' does work, to a point. ADVRider.com has 97,370 member at the moment and very little moderation at all. I've never experienced any myself, and I'm only vaguely aware of a couple minor problems in the last several years.

I think part of the problem here is all the new people without a 100% clear cut idea of where the line(s) are. Rules like: "If you think that a post may cause eyebrows to be raised by the forum moderators, don't post it!" make all the other rules fairly much pointless. Considering the number of moderators you really can't post anything as you have no way to know if any of the myriad of moderators might not like your posting

I've been heavily involved in a lot of things like this (anybody else remember QWK mail?) including positions of authority with the ability to can mail for 100's of thousands of people. It's much easier to do when the rules are clear, and the people with 'power' aren't the type that enjoy exercising it.

I'm not trying to bash this forum in any way, just pointing out what I see as issues.

If my comment was intended as an insult then I would suggest that I am not above the law and the rules should be enforced upon me, yes.

If it was intended as an insult, that is.

And that's just my opinion.
