Square 4-pin LEDs

I was wondering, has anyone used a square 4-pin LED in a clear mod? Are they too bright? Require too much power? Let me know, my thought was to incorporate an LED that would illuminate the housing because they are easily accessible, as opposed to 5mm bright color LED's.
