I've started noticing that I get the best (i.e. nicest flavor, smoothest) hits when my wick is nearly dry (or at least I think it's nearly dry. Immediately after squonking I seem to get a very wet hit and/or harsh hit, whereas the following hit is generally much dryer, smoother, and carries a nicer / mellower flavor. I'm guessing this may be a squonking technique issue, but am wondering what you guys and gals think.

I'm running a 1.8 ohm micro coil with cotton wick in an RM2. The coil is raised off of the deck maybe 1mm - 2mm.

Depends on the thickness of the juice. It also depends on the mod's exact feeding system - I don't have a Reo, so this may not apply to you. My method also requires that your atty get air from the bottom (center of the 510 connector) and has a somewhat tight draw.

Here's what I do:

- With thick VG juices: I squonk (quite hard, to get the juice going) and lightly draw on the drip tip. As long as I hear gurgling noises, I keep squonking harder and harder. Once it stops gurgling, it means the air hole is full of juice, and the juice has reached the atty. I keep pressing the bottle 2 or 3 more seconds to ensure enough of it falls onto the deck, then release. Then I suck hard once to clear the airway of juice.

- With thin juices, I squonk lightly and draw air *until* I start hearing gurgling noise, then I keep the pressing the bottle for a split second and release.

I always get the wick juuust wet enough, without flooding, with this method.

YMMV.

That's why it best to keep the wick tail's short and squonk every 1-2 hit's, if you have wick holding juice that wont be vaped until the 4th, 5th or 6th hit down the line it's getting heated for no reason.. I love squonking :)

I also squonk pre-emptively about every other draw. I use a shorter wick and it will give me possibly 3 draws, but it really starts getting hot if I forget, then the next one will be downright nasty as I fry my wick, so I just keep squonking. The excess drains away anyway and my wick stays just wet enough. I'm only sub-ohming at .7, which is warm enough for me.

I'm running a micro coil with cotton around 0.7-0.8 ohms in a RM2. My air hole is drilled out to 2.4mm. The bottom of the coil is at least 2mm above the deck. I find the best vape is with a very saturated but not flooded wick. I give it a couple of sends after squonking for juice to drain. This does increase vapor, flavor and TH, but I appreciate that :).

I don't think you're doing anything wrong in how you squonk. Maybe try giving it a few more seconds for the juice to drain back down.

There is no right or wrong here, whatever works best for you is right for you :thumb:

Thanks for the tips everyone. I'll have to see about waiting a couple seconds after the squonk before taking a hit and see if that helps. Maybe I'll squonking after taking a hit instead of before taking one.

I should have said, that's when I squonk. I vape 80% VG so I squonk hard right after a draw so it has a bit to drain back down. An added benefit is a cool sizzling sound when fresh juice hits a hot coil.

Not sure about it tasting funky near the end. Generally I taste the sweetness of the juice during inhale/exhale and then am left with a sort of sterile (almost plasticy) aftertaste. I have been wondering about this for a while, but just tallied it up to "something ecigs do".
