ss cable wick question

I'm very new to genesis style attys, with my aga t2 currently set up and working nicely with mesh. I'm curious about cable though. It seems like people are setting it up with something like mesh wrapped wrapped around the top for a smoother contact surface for the coil. Without this, the coil would have spaces leading to hot spots where its not touching the cable, right? Has anyone tried setting it up with your wire following the twist of the cable itself? I was thinking this might give you the smooth surface and also increase surface area to the coil by having it "in the groove" itself?

I would try it, play with it, see if its even possible, but I don't yet have any cable, nor even any spare mesh at the moment.

If I remember, I will give this a try the next time I have the wick out if my RSST. I'm currently running cable sleeved in ekowool which works pretty well.

I did my first build using SS cable in my AIOS tonight. Instead of wrapping it with mesh, I sleeved it with hollow Ekowool which nearly eliminates hot spot issues for me. I know Ekowool isn't for everyone tastewise, but the small amount of taste it imparts to the vape seems to quickly go away. And with my current build I'm vaping like a boss.

Failure, kind of what I figured. The cable isn't twisted tight enough to even get one whole wrap, following the strands. But hey, cable with a mesh topper is working good so far...
