Ok guys I have a few questions. I'm a soon to be owner of a new SS GGTS. (Waiting for it to be delivered now). I just wanted to know what care and maintenance needs to be done to keep my SS GGTS pristine? Do I have to worry about the threads scratching up the telescoping tube? Are there things I should or shouldn't be doing? How often should I be cleaning the contacts and connections? Thanks for the help guys.

prints of threads on the telescope are common guys. Its not an issue of course.

Sorry Imeo, just seems like a lot of GG owners are very concerned with scratches and keeping their favorite PV pristine! I just wanted to find out if it was normal or if it only happened on a select few. Also, is there any thing I can do to prevent them from happening to mine?

These are not scratches billy. Scratches are accidents and they are not symetrical. They make GG look bad. But threads on telescope are very symmetrical and they dont make GG look bad at all to my opinion

It is possible that a single o ring is what is keeping my telescope from scratching. I keep 1 o ring at the point where the telescope meets the bottom tube (I actually push it in the bottom tube slightly) because I find that it cuts down the bottom tube wobble a little bit.
You can kinda see it in this picture.

Nice idea, where did you get the o-ring from?

And I'll go ahead and tell you that as long as you are investing in the Rolls Royce of PV's, you may as well get what you need. The O-rings are a vital part of the function of it so it never hurts to keep a stock on them.

Many of us, myself included, keep several full sets for each device we own. We have a thread in the srtrickies with several vendors and the sizes you need. Including shipping, you can get all you'll realistically need for 12 bucks or so.

Buying them assorted sizes is okay but you waste a lot om money. If you go to a dedicated O-ring online vendor, you can get only the sizes you need for spares. Besides the 2 springs, they are about the only thing that can wear out since the GGTS and Stealth are made of steel now.

As for the scratches, if you stay on top of keeping your GG shiny, it isnt a big chore. I have my TMF #1376 that sees many hours of daily use and it only has 1 scratch that I can't polish out. and I'd have to point it out under proper lighting for you to see it.

My only point is that they are like any other item - If you start and maintain routine that includes polishijng and cleaning, it'll be easier than waiting and realizing it has turned un-shiny on you. ;)

Thanks for the great suggestions guys. I'll make sure to pick some o-rings and springs to keep on hand in case something breaks down. I also want to pick up one of those cape cod polishing clothes. Has anyone used one of the polishing clothes made for jealwry?

Only thing my GG's see is a quality microfiber cloth that is used daily while vaping. IF they need a tad of polish - Flitz on a damp rag, very lightly used, not anywhere near the engravings. Wiped off, then polished w/top side of jewelry cloth and then final wipe w/microfiber cloth.
