I'm fairly new to genesis style atomizers. I've had really good luck with it so far. How long should my wick last? How long should a coil last? I'm sure I could hunt down the answers but my head hurts already from reading so many genesis threads. I'm using 400 mesh and 28 gauge kanthal if it makes a difference.

My wick has been in use for a couple months. I find that I like to recoil it about twice a week. With the mix I'm using it will gunk up and start tasting stale, I can also tell the response time is slower. I can dry burn it to get the gunk off and I do but I love a fresh coil. I can now recoil it and have it back up to speed in a couple minutes.

To be honest, I've yet to replace either a wick or coil out of necessity. The only time I ever replace either is when I'm experimenting with something. I have a Bliss which has had the same wick/coil set up in it since probably mid December. When I refill any of my RBAs, I just look to see if there is gunk on the coils; and if necessary, I just dry burn them, and brush the gunk off with a Dentek brush.

Thanks for the info. That's pretty much what I thought but wanted to find out from folks with more experience.

I'm actually usually looking for an excuse to change out a wick and coil. Because I hate tearing a good working one apart. These things just run and run, when set up right.

I know there are so many techniques and ideas I would like to try, but why destroy a perfectly good setup to try something that may or may not work out for me.

I have a few DID clones and original AGAs that I no longer use. I do my experimenting on them sometimes.

I have no qualms about taking off a coil and wrapping a new one..I love wrapping coils! Wicks are another matter..since I'm still using the ones I first started with, I don't have much experience rolling and oxidizing. I may like a fresh coil but I'd much rather have a well seasoned wick!

When I first started.. I wasn't so coil wrap happy.. in fact I would wrap and just hope it came out right and I'd take whatever resistance it gave me and use it. Now, I can wrap to the exact resistance I want and have it light up perfectly each time, but a well seasoned wick is a large key to this. I wrapped my did earlier today and got a good glow, but it still wanted to glow after filling the tank and saturating the wick. Hmmm.. I vaped it and got the burnt/metal taste. My tension wasn't right somewhere. I emptied the tank (much more trouble than recoiling) and since I had already cut the excess wire, I had to just take it out and start over.. this time taking extra care that the tension was even. Then I was good to go.

Every time I wrap a coil, I learn something more. I'll be getting my mech this week so I'll kinda be starting out again with another learning curve. I wanted to master wicks and coils before I moved ahead to the .8 coils. I haven't been able to get that low with 30g but with Provari's, I haven't tried very hard. I'll break out the 28g and see what I can do. This ought to be interesting. My did is 1.1 right now at 3.8 on the Provari and I can't imagine the vape being any better.

Once I get the EA and work on the mech with slr thing... I'm kinda at a lose on where to go from there. I guess next I'll have to experiment with U wicks, double wicks and the ceramic/stone wicks. I'm beginning to see why some people are doing the mod dating thing.. boredom :glare:

Or maybe I can actually go back to the life I had before, the life where I sat in my recliner and read books instead of watching vape vids.... the life where I relaxed in front of the TV with a movie... the life where I went outside and worked in my yard... or made jewelry or sewed.

exactly. once i got the vape i imagined i would get from the genesis. and once i learned how to make the genesis work for me and not the other way around, the obsession just vanished. no more countless hours of research on the mystified hydromechanics or the inner workings of the coil and mesh. vaping became just a pleasure

I hope that's how it'll be for me! All I've been able to think about the past couple months was wicks and coils and which rba to get and which to keep and which mech to get and if I even want a mech! OMG I hope once my EA comes I won't get the highend mech fever like I have the highend rba fever. 2 dids and a zap... you do the math, at least the dids were bought used and clearance and not full price. So I guess I saved enough to overpay for the Electric angel LOL

This is a helpful thread. Just this evening I'm beginning to understand the concept of seasoned wick. The wick/coil assembly I made on sunday started off with unbelievabley good flavor... Complete heaven. But I became rather dissapointed when after only a matter of hours the flavor began to diminish. No hot spots or burnt flavor, just dull. It put me to the point where I got so disgusted I switched to a trusty ol' 510 dripping atty for a time. I was tempted to take out the assembly and try again fresh. But for some reason I stuck with it through Monday and today.

Now tonight, I'm finding the flavor coming back in a big way. This is a good development for me, because I was thinking this genisis business just wasn't for me. I've heard mention a few times of having to break in the wick, but it got lost on me with how powerful the vape was at the christening of that assembly. I think I now see the importance of a broken in wick.

So, it is not the wick that gunks up, but rather the coils? The coils are the culprit for diminished flavor? So wicks don't need to ever be cleaned?

I might as well add my other question while I'm at it: how do you prepare the atty when you finish a tank of juice A, want to keep the same assembly, and start a new tank with juice B? Are you able to clean everything while leaving the coil/wick all together? How do you clean it... just by holding the atty under a faucet?

I have done nothing special to clean my wicks.

A PBusardo Review - The AGA-T(s) - Part 1 - The Review - YouTube Start watching this video at about 32min and he shows how he cleans out for a new flavor. I have been sampling some new juice I received yesterday in my Z-atty Pro and have been using this technique between flavors and it seems to be working well.

I have a theory why a fresh wick and coil gives such a powerful vape. No proof, just a theory. Perhaps a new setup still has little micro shorts. Not enough to cause bad flavor but it might burn just a little hotter which results in more/hotter vapor. As the shorts go away with seasoning, vapor diminishes. Or perhaps the wick is not yet fully saturated and running a little drier which increases heat and produces more vapor. This is pure speculation of course.

When I change the coil I may rinse the wick under the faucet or I may not, just depends on whether I want to get up or not. But I do wipe it off with a tissue. I coil my wick by hand before I put them in the device and then attach the wires.

yes i think thats the case. the micro shorts do give a powerful th, without affecting flavor that much. that's why ppl are going in the lowest possible resistance direction. for the fast response and strong th.

This thread is starting to make me think I was wrong with assuming my wick was at fault for dirty juice in my tank. I thought maybe I over oxidized it (it was my first wick ever) so then tried under oxidizing during my second wick. Man that was a lesson learned the hard way. Short city.

I built a new wick properly oxidized and things are back working well. Has anyone here had the experience of dirty juice in the tank? I did run some pure VG through which may have been a culprit. I was dry burning between tanks and all getting majority of the gunk off. Man that juice got nasty quick!

Still waiting for this new wick to break in. I find I have to tilt pretty heavily at first but that seems logical. Think a thinner wick would work better for wicking?
