The answer could be any of those mentioned, depending on who you ask. I myself use my stove's flame (natural gas). Some who use the non oxidized version use a regular lighter, as originally proposed by Petar K. And the vast majority seem to use a butane torch/flame of some kind.
thanks everybody for replying but sadly i dont have a mech mod yet. Im trying to set up my RSST that i got today but im meeting with alot of disappointments. The first wick, i built wasn't wicking correctly and i used a lighter on it so it didnt burn it evenly. I then made a second wick but it was rather thin for the wick hole in the RSST. Now im on my third wick which fits perfectly and is wicking correctly(i think). So my question is, can someone tell me why im not getting good vapor production? Im getting very minimal vapor right now.
The first one came out at 2.2ohm with a 4/5 wrap. The 2nd one, i didn't bother to test the ohms since i was charging my evic. I just popped on and fire it to see if it will glow evenly. The third one is reading 2.0 ohm with a 3/4 wrap. Im using 500 mesh + 32 kanthal.
i just hold the mesh once in a lighter flame, like 30 seconds tops for the entire piece, to burn of leftovers on the mesh of whatever might be on.. and then pulse with a twist on 3.2 once i get a turn or so gowing, i crank it up to 3.4 and go a bit higher and higher till i get a good coil. Sometimes the twist does run a bit hot and I take another twist
Had that same problem with my eVic, I was capped at 11 watts max. Vapor production was average to be fair. Then I decided to get a mech mod for my genesis rbas and problem solved!
