Hi,

This thread is not how to properly oxidise an SS wick, but how not to oxidise it. Take this with a grain of salt, some might find that it works, some not.

I just rolled up the wick, put it in and made a twisted 0.2 khantal coil. Wrapped the coil around the wick, filled the tank, turned it upside down so the wick is wet all the time and starting pulsing the on/off switch. Of course at first it glowed, but it did not break as it is twisted. After something like 20-30 1-2 sec pulses it did not glow anymore and does its thing as you can see in the video. It got oxidised by itself. Yes i know not all the wraps around the coil produce vapor but i don't care as the vapor production is very good imo. No dry hits also.

Measured on a multimeter it turned out to be at 1.5 ohms

I did use an 18650 IMR battery so it can handle the initial amps when the coil is glowing.

I tried that on my GTUS with a PT set to 3.5V with a soaked wick/coil (I wanted to see if it could be done without the whole torch thing for a buddy that is tool challenged)...I found I just kept blowing the coil tails that went to the connector screws...I must have bad Kanthal/mesh karma:(...one of the reasons why I tried the mesh/ceramic hybrid...

The GTUS has a lot of space between the posts and is one of it's weak points IMO. You can bend the wick over to the pos post and it helps, or just get a Line, my coils are lasting over three weeks on the Line.

Quigsworth, if I were you I would look deeper into the safety of the ceramic wick The experts (MD's) I have consulted basically say if the strand shed and these micro shreds get in your lungs it is cancerous, no mater if it is fiberglass, silica, ceramic, or asbestos. After burning your ceramic bend and twist it over a black piece of paper and look with a magnifier. I did and it convinced me to stay with 100% SS.

Since I got a Line I have sold all my other rebuildables (7). Still have an A2 but it has a false contact on the pos, when I get around to fixing it I will sell it also, I felt I would never use them after using a Line. I can buy many lines with the over $1000 I got from the sales. If the line is a 10 IMO the next best is a 5, that big is the difference and I have tried most, that I won't mention here.

I completely agree with you on the strand shed...I can hear it in the threads when I screw my Ody together after a wick/coil change...sounds like broken glass...however, and this experience is analogous to partly what I do for a living which is deal with asbestos contamination and not e-cigs (I've got so much to learn still)...when a material like asbestos is broken up into particles small enough to become air born (or becomes friable) it becomes a health hazard because our lungs can't expel it as it's so fine (like 100x finer than a human hair)...but, once you make asbestos wet it is no longer friable the hazard is gone...hell you can eat asbestos if you felt so inclined. Ceramic shards are huge in comparison to asbestos and simply get expelled by the cilia in our lungs and seeing as (hopefully) your wick is always wet with juice, the chance of friability is probably close to zero to begin with...again, I agree, stainless is zero and certainly the better option...but, there is another option that I haven't seen done yet (though I'm probably wrong)...fiber optic strand bundled together into say a 4mm wick...about a pure as it gets, huge temp tolerance and a natural insulator and tougher than one would think when it comes to working with it.

I've got my name on the Line SS list over on the wall, but that list is loooong:(
